We have a new chief here and he doesn't really know how to take me yet So I walk in the admin area this afternoon when I got to work and I'm wearing my leathers because it's friggin cold out up here and I see the chief looking at me through his office window. When I come back downstairs from changing he runs into me and says, "Were those tights I saw you wearing earlier?" I told them that they were my spandex and I just got back from a ballet lesson. He then proceeds to tell me that he hopes I am riding a BMW because they are the only real riders that can withstand to be out in this weather.....[sm=confused06.gif][sm=WTFsgign.gif]

If its a joke and all in good fun, then it sounds like you got a pretty cool new Captain. If he means it, well, I'm sorry. Your life just got a lot harder.

I think he was serious..BMW riders will go out in anything short of an ice storm. In Europe they ride those things all winter, even up in the mountains.

Course they have a lot of specialized gear, (much of it heated), and ABS brakes to deal with the slick stuff.

This is accurate. There's even web sites dedicated to BMW year round riders. With H-D representing about 50% of the street bike market share, come summer they seem to be about 50% of the bikes on the road. In the winter this drops to maybe 25%. I ride year round on the H-D, but don't see the same percentage as I do in the summer. There's probably a couple of reasons but I really believe some of it is due to the desire to look "cool" riding without a helmet, and some would rather not ride than wear a nice and warm full faced helmet on a winter's day ride.

 

ABS won't do a thing for you when you get on ice!!
