Getting Rear Turn Signals off Fatboy Strut??
Hey guys, anyone ever done this? ...Most of the saddlebags I'm considering can't have the turn signals on the struts, at all..
They gotta go somewhere else.
This is yet another thing about the fatboy that is a problem if you wanna go LARGE with the saddlebags.. sorry had to vent there. []
I really do love my fatty.. I really do.
Ok, so instead of hobbling something together, possibly with trying to mount the signals to the license plate mount (mine is the custom chrome laydown version)..
Can you mount a heritage or possibly a deluxe lightbar onto a fatboy rear fender?
The deluxe lightbar might be better for keeping the bullet style lights (not to stray too much from the fatboy looks).. Not to mention the deluxe bar looks pretty dang sharp.
One issue I can see would be the geometry.. The heritage fenders are dimpled/shaped where the bar mounts.
Open also for other suggestions.. I've seen cycle visions little light brackets for license plate mounting.. it's a thought.
Sorry if this is this subject is out there in another thread.. I'm searching for it.

RE: Rear Turn Signal Bar on a Fatboy Rear Fender??
Sorry I don't have a picture yet (working on it) but the Deluxe style turn signal bar looks great on my '05 FLSTFI ANN. ED. You just have to drill a couple holes in the fender. The factory unit is cheaper than the one from JPcycles and comes with the wiring installed. Just run the wires under the rubber lip of the taillight and plug them in. It should give enough room for any saddle bags.

Thanks Tyler..
Yeah I've seen his bags.. I think he's got the ironbags model "iron thunder"...
I'm considering the iron bags but the larger ones, maybe the "Freedom" or "Iron Max" bags.. The iron max bags from the pictures appear to be HUGE! They fill up the whole side profile of the fender.. Those lights would surely have to go for their big bags.. I haven't talked to Max at Ironbags yet, but I think they even mount using the hole where our tailights are now or maybe the one right next to it. The "iron thunder" bags aren't so hard to do though.. kinda like those hard HD bags.. still allow room for the rear signal on the strut.
I think the iron bags run like this:
Iron Bullet.. (Medium),
Iron Thunder.. (Large),
Freedom.. (X-Large),
Iron Max.. (XX-Large).
ain't cheap though, either of them. When I talk to Max at ironbags, I'll ask him what kind of solutions his other fatboy customers have done and report back.
My thoughts were the Deluxe lightbar would keep the bullet style lights, so it wouldn't remove too much of the Fatboy styling. Might have to break out the drill though.. eeek what a thought. Once you start, you can't go back.
Also.. Tyler, These bags won't be detachable like yours will. [sm=coolness.gif]

RE: Rear Turn Signal Bar on a Fatboy Rear Fender??
I used the relocation kit from Great Bike Gear. It is a chrome frame that fits over the lay down frame and has holes predrilled to remount the original turn signals. The wiring is long enough without splicing. You do have to remove the pins from the connector and drill two small holes on the top of the laydown plate where it mounts to the fender to route the wires--but the new cover hides these holes. Then get two of each of the chrome plugs made for the Deluxe to plug the holes in the fender struts.
Good Luck!

RE: Rear Turn Signal Bar on a Fatboy Rear Fender??
Well, I finally got a look at Bubbasbrake's site and his laydown license plate with mounts for signals.. I'm in! I think that's a winner.. Gotta break out the drill for a hole in the middle of the three mounts on the fender but it looks pretty clean, and the plate lays down pretty flat. Can't say I've seen a better option for keeping the current bullets... Looks like I'll be placing an order tomorrow.. bags will probably be here tomorrow too according to UPS.com
Here's some pics of his plate / signal mount
Whata ya think?
