Default KEEP the Air temp gauge??

THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT REMOVING THE AIR TEMP GAUGE!

There have been a lot of post about removing the Air temp gauge and installing a oil temp gauge I think that is a great idea but, I don't want a oil temp gauge I ride on the highways not intown and I just want it to work better.

I found a way to make the gauge work a LOT better and it is not very hard to do. Rember this gauge is only going to work when you are moving and is not extremely accurate.

If anyone is interested let me know and I can post photos and instructions.

By the way if you want to know the oil temp, Harley makes a dipstick oil temp gauge P/N 62666-87TA to tell you. Yes I know you probably have to get off the bike to do it but is will work.

Default RE: KEEP the Air temp gauge??

Some people would like their Air Temp Gauge to work better.
The air cannot get to the sensor where it is located. By moving the sensor to the inside of the fairing bracket the sensor will recieve much more air around it. This will make the gauge read more often because the complete sensor mass needs to change temperature before the gauge can change.

1. Remove the outer fairing.
2. You need to drill a hole 15/64" (it is smaller than 1/4") as in the photo. The reason the hole looks white is because the sensor is pluged in the hole.

3. The stock location of the temp sensor is on the outside of the fairing bracket. After you drill the new hole relocate the sensor on the inside of the fairing bracket as shown in the photo.

4. This is how my wires look after relocating for new sensor location.

5. Reinstall outer fairing.

You can see larger photos on my website www.edstephens.com

Thanks for the information. t looks like a simple fix. Something else to tinker with the next time I open the fairing.

Ride safe and keep the wings level.

How accurate is it there? I moved mine as far down as I could without extending the wires as I didnt have the stuff to do it. I just tie straped it to the harness. It is better but still not as good as it should be. I have my toolbox at home now so I can move it where I want but just wondering how it is where you have it.

Mine woorks great but remember the gauge will not work unless you are moving and the complete mass of the sensor must change in temp for the gauge to change, this WILL take time.
