Apes on my Fatboy

Apes on my Fatboy
I am wanting to put 16" Apes on my 06 Fatboy.
I am having problems finding out exactly what cables I need to replace and what length cables to purchase. For example brake cable + 6 length. Could someone give me a quick run down of cables and other items I will need to replace. I am converting over to SS braided cables and I will be using my stock risers.
thanks

RE: Apes on my Fatboy
You'll need to replace the clutch cable, brake line to front brake, and your throttle cables(if you have 2). You'll also have to decide whether to run "fat" or chubby bars and run all the wiring inside or stay with the stock 1 inch bars and put wire extensions on your existing wiring harness. If you're mechanically inclined then all this is pretty easy to do...just takes time, especially the wiring.
The clutch cable does require you to remove the cover off the trans where the clutch cable enters it...you'll lose oil and will need to replace the gasket. You'll also lose brake fluid when you change your brake line. The whole thing took me about six hours, most of it the wiring and figuring how to do it right running it through the bars.
I think the 6 + is the length you'll need but not sure. Check with SS, Barnett, or one of the on-line catalogs like JP, Custom Chrome for size listings.
Good luck, I like my 16's.

RE: Apes on my Fatboy
i ordered my cables from www.phatperformanceparts.com they have great Prices I used 8 in over stock but I orderd the brake line a bit too long,, but 8 in over on the throtle, idle and clutch is the way to go for 16 in apes. make sure you have a snap ring puller for the clutch cable I took me about an hour and a busted thumbnail to set the snap ring in the clutch. good luck

RE: Apes on my Fatboy
I put 12.5's on my fatboy. A good way to do it is wire and mount the bars with all your controls on. Then start running all your old cables back and measure how much short they are. You might want to run them different and need longer or shorter. This is a good way to mock up cables. Also cut the wheel left and right all the way.

RE: Apes on my Fatboy
I may go with the 12.5" apes. I want my hands to be about chest high, maybe a little higher. I sat on a Road King with 16" apes and they were perfect, however the Fatboy sits a little lower than the Road King so I am thinking the 12.5" may be sufficient.
So far this is what I am planning on buying:
+6 SS braided brake line
+6 SS braided throttle cable
+6 clutch cable
Do I need an idle cable?
I also am only finding cables for softails through 2005.
My bike is an 06, does this matter?
thanks for the help,
