Going to the Deals Gap to ride the Dragon...
Just wondering if anyone else from this forum will be there.
I'll be taking off this Friday From South Louisiana with 2 other riders. We're crashing out in Montgomery Al, and then arriving in Cherokee, NC Saturday. We're going to be meeting up with my bud from Tampa Fl, and his uncle from Indiana.
We'll be in the area for about 3 or 4 days and then off to Chatanooga for a couple days and then returning home the following Friday or Saturday.
This will be my first long ride and I'm pretty darn excited about the trip.
If you like, PM me to exchange cell numbers if anyone would like to try to hookup.

Deals Gap is over run with sportbikes on weekends. Try 28 --lot less traffic.

The dragon is overrun with crotch rockets every day. Just go ride the dragon and remember to stay to the outside of your lane and let the crotchers pass if they want to. The first time through, you won't see naything bu thte raod. On the return trip, you'll see a litle more scenery but pay attention, the dragon will reach up and bite you if proper respect is not given.

Be careful. I have heard that most fatal crashes are from the rice rockets and sports cars.
I hope to make the trip myself soon.

Always take it easy along the river on US 129 as you approach the Dragon. Blount
County SO will usually have a car shooting radar along here.
There will be increased enforcement on western North Carolina roads this summer by NCHP.
Watch for radar on the Cherohala and major 4-lanes such as US74/19 and NC28.
Also expect to see NC Motorcycle Troopers on weekends in the area on a limited basis.
We have seen Blount Co Sheriff cars on the Dragon at various times.
Be aware that they will issue tickets for unreasonable speeds and unsafe riding.
I hope to make the trip myself soon.

Be sure to ride the Cherahola Skyway from Robbinsville to Telico Plains - Then Hwy 68 from Telico Plains to Ducktown - The Ocoee River Gourge (hwy 64) from Ducktown to Cleveland. You'll want to make that your route to Chattanooga. Its a tremendous ride!
