Jagg 10 Row Oil Cooler

Jagg 10 Row Oil Cooler
\\;\\\\\\; After reviewing all the threads here debating the use of an oil cooler to reduce temps on the 96's I finally decided to just install one because at worst it was a waste of money that would not cause any damage and at best it might lower oil temps and extend the life of the motor. I already installed a PCIII and K and N filter kit from Fuelmoto with good results but I wanted to see if I could do any better.
Before I decided to order I reviewed the threads here which really did not leave me with a clear choice. Some seemed to think the oil cooler could possibly effect oil pressure and/or cause the motor to not come up to operating temperature in the winter. With that information I decided to call an old friend of my uncles that had been building v-twins since before I was born. He said he did not have much experience with the TC's, but he certainly did not think it would hurt. His opinion was that at the very least I would be adding to total oil volume and this would assist with cooling.
Taking his opinion into account, along with the fact that Harley sells an oil cooler and is more than happy to install them I figured it was a safe thing to do. After checking out the Harley cooler I decided to give Jagg a call. I was familiar with the company they are associated with (Setrab, used them in the past). The guy that answered their phones (I think his name was Marvin) was a big help. I decided to go with their low mount 10 row cooler with the oil filter adapter that includes the thermostat. I also asked that he include a T to replace one of the nipple on the adapter so I could install an oil temp guage to satisfy my curiousity.
The part arrived in a couple of days and the install was straight forward, not hard at all. The only difficulty was \\;\\\\\\; tightening one of the allen heads on the back of the adapter because it lined up with the front header pipe. Unfortunatly the oil temp guage I order was electronic and not mechanical and the probe for the sender was too long. If I installed it the flow of oil to the cooler would have been restricted. I ordered another sender with a shorter probe, when it arrives I may install it or I may just buy a mechanical guage.
So, I have none of the data you would be looking for, and that is the temps. But I can say the install was pretty straight forward and the people at Jagg's were a big help and were willing to take the time to answer a bunch of stupid questions from me. If anyone is interested I can post some pictures. As soon as I get a guage installed I will post up the temp data. Oh yes, and the install was on an 07 Steet Bob.

RE: Jagg 10 Row Oil Cooler
I will post if I ever get the temp gauge installed. The issue will be that I did not have a gauge on it prior to the oil cooler install so I am not sure if it will tell us much about the cooler.
I planned on installing the oil filter adapter and t to install the oil temp gauge and just looping the hose from the input to the output on the adapter without installing the cooler to verify what the temps were prior to the install, but when I found out the sender probe was too long I decided I did not want to wait a week with the thing half installed. I can tell you the freaking cooler gets hot as heck, lol.
And maybe the best part of all of this is the guy that answered the phone at Jagg actually understood the product (I believe he designed it) and was willing to take the time to talk to me about it. He actually told me I did not need the adapter with the thermostat (even though it cost more) because the TC coming up to temperature would not be a problem with or without the thermostat. I went with the thermostat adapter plate anyway because it was black and the other adapter was not. He also told me to call for any help with the install. Very nice and good service. In the past this would not have been a big deal, but in the age of help desks in India and MIA support it is nice to have this kind of response from a company.

RE: Jagg 10 Row Oil Cooler
\\;\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\; I had read that before as well. Jagg claims that will not happen and that the TC will come up to a safe operating temp with or without the thermostat during the winter. They certainly could be wrong, I do not know. \\;\\\\\\; \\; I asked him why if the bike would come up to temp either way did they bother even designing an adapter with a thermostat. \\; He said the only reason was so that they engine could come up to operating temperature quickly enough to pass emissions testing. I am not arguing the point because I have no clue, just passing on the info.
