Default Bobber update, days 4 & 5

Day 4

Tapped the front gas tank mounting bracket, so as to run bolts in from both sides. This was a pretty big hole, So I tapped it with a 7/16 tap and used some bolts I had lying around...

I also marked out the holes for the rear gas tank mount. I found a small steel pipe coupling at the hardward store. As you can see, it works as a sleeve nicely. Once welded and cut down, it will be GREAT!

Day 5

Took the frame down, and found a guy who mig welded the rear gas tank mounting sleeve for the rock bottom price of FREE

you can see that I once again am using my trusty hacksaw...

And what the finished product looks like after work with a bastard file and arat tail file and then threading the holes for the mounting bolts. The rear bolt's are 3/8.

next to go was the factory fork stop. Since I have aspringer front end, I will be making fork stops out of square stock steel and welding them to the sides of the frame. Basically, the factory stop had to go, and here it is all filed down after the hacksaw came in handy once again[&:]...

Next, the rat tail file was used to smooth out the welds on both the front and rear brackets for my rear and only fender on this chopper/bobber.

I also removed the little "****" sticking out for holding factory wires, etc.

This 2.5 gal tank I picked up at the salvage yard for 80 bucks. real nice buthas one little dent the size of a nickel about 1/16 of an inch deep. a little bondo before paint will handle that. It's from a 1995 sporty. I wanted a small one. As I mentioned before, I initially intended to go with twin fat bob tanks, but decided on this due to price and the fact that it's small, and this is a no frills, ultra lightweight bobber.

As you can see, the basic shape of the bike is starting to appear.

Finally a (crappy) pic of the risers, drag bar and bearings that arrived from Jireh cycles.Still awaiting the delivery of the springer front end, the 21 sporty wheel off of eBay and my tooled seather seat.

NOTE: day 5 has essentially killed my arms and shoulders. No power tools being used means alot of WORK, but as you can see it's starting to pay off. I have noticed that the front left motor mounts came from the factory only about 50% welded on. That may be sufficient, but not for me. I used a wire wheel in my cordless drill and took it down to bare metal, so that the rest can be welded on the next trip, basically when it's time for the seat mounts, and the bracket for my rear flyrite sprotor.

Looking good!

Yeah I would have gone with the smaller tank also. More of a bobber look IMHO! Keep posting!

Yes.&nbsp\\;VERY nice, only 1 hangup so far......the seat post sticks up a little higher that the side posts going down to the rear axle, so seat clearance issues have to be resolved, probably have to go with 3 inch springs instead of my 2 inchers.[]
