mounting lowers on an HD QD windshield
I mentioned this in a related thread and a few of you guys PMed asking for pics. Here they are:
This first just shows the hardware. All this stuff I had in the garage, except the bar which cost $4. All hardware is stainless (M5 screws, but you can use whatever fits) and I used additional neoprene washers and also used nylon spacers in the holes in the lowers. For the steel, I spray painted with matte enamel. Notice the curve and bend. I just hammered the bar to fit the contour of the inside of the windshield and then just bent it to get the lowers parallel to the fork (otherwise you won't be able to put the windshield on. Ask me how I know.) The whole project took about an hour, not counting drying time for the paint.
It ain't pretty, but it ain't ghetto. And it works. Nothing left behind on the bike and it helps a lot on those long days on the slab.
Here you can see the importance of bending the bar to get the lower to be parallel to the fork.
Since I only use my windshield for road trips, this is a perfect solution for me, and cheap. If anyone has any questions, e-mail or PM.
