Need a Wind Shield for 02 Sporty
Hi Guys
Well I am taking my first road trip on my new Ultra with my Dad,2of my uncles and my best friend. My one uncle used to ride alot but got rid of his bike due to family considerations. I invited him to go along and offered him my second bike a 2002883R. He was so excited he couldn't stand it. I am very glad that he is coming along and want to make the bike a little more comfy for him on the long haul (approx 2000 miles in 4 days). I already have a sundowner seat that I can put on the bike for him and the bike has highway pegs as well as mid pegs however I do not think he will be able to keep up with the rest of us (2 Ultra Classics and 2 Goldwings) without some wind protection. I can't spend alot of money obviously but I am willing to spend a little (100-150 ish) for something that will provide him a decent amount of protection. It does not have to be detachableas longas it isn't a complete nightmare to take on and off with some basic tools. I want this to be a great experience for him because I know how much he likes to ride and he has been toying with the idea of getting a new bike. Maybe this is what he needs to push him over the edge. Also if you all can think of anything else I can do to make the Sporty a little more tour worthy that would be great. Obviously with 4 baggers on board luggage capacity is not a concern as he can use some of our space. By the way we are leaving from Ohio and heading to the Blueridge Parkway. I cannot friggen wait I think it will be a blast 4 days no job, no wife, no kids (although I love my wife and daughter alot, time away is nice too) just us the bikes and the road. Wait a minute did that sound something like a line from Wild Hogs. Any imput is appreciated guys.
Thanks
Phil

The only thing I can suggest is trying National Cycles or Memphis Shades. Standard height. As far as keeping up, you only go as fast as your slowest bike, right? You go as a group, you stay as a group. One of the baggers should be "assigned" to pick up the rear. That way nobody gets left behind. 2,000 miles for someone who hasn't ridden in a while is gonna be a bitch. No getting around it. That's 500 miles a day average for four days. That's a lot of riding. Just take it easy, enjoy the scenery, take breaks every hour or so (the sporty only has a 100 mile range before starting to look for gas). And enjoy each others company. You'll have a blast!

The Blue Ridge Pkwy. is a great ride, you should really enjoy it. Have you ridden it before? I ask because it is a scenic, winding mountain road with a speed limit of 35 mph. Given your trip is 4 days/2000 miles be sure to factor in the 35 mph speed limit. The BRP is 469 miles long and you kind of tend to get no where fast, as the crow flies. Also, the BRP is Federal jurisdiction, speeding fines start at $500, be careful.
Have a great trip.

Thanks guys We will go easy on him. The goal on this trip is to have no goal but to have fun and see some beautiful scenery. We will stop often so we may not make 2000 miles that was just a target not a mandate. I just want to get there as fast as possible so that once we get to the Blue Ridge Parkway we can just relax and enjoy the ride.

Sounds like a plan, Phil! So, how much time do you have to figure out which windshield to get? Have you been able to research National Cycle and Memphis Shades websites yet? What does your uncle think he'd like for wind protection? I've used Memphis Fats 17" shield on the Honda Shadow 750 I had before I got my Sportster. It came with the bike. I had no issues at all with it. National Cycle has a shield that's adjustable for height, which I think is cool. I don't know what the price is, though.
Whatever you decide, let us know, and post pics of it when you get it on. And if you'd like, post pics of your trip! Good luck, and have fun!

Thanks Teek
We leave on the 29th of this month so I have a little time. I need to talk to him about it a little more. I need to get the sundowner seat so we can see where he sit on that seat. The sundowner is currently at another uncles house as he was trying it out for size. I am thinking knowing him that he will just want a Standard sized shield I have thought about a plexifaring from NC. Tha would give him serious protection, but we' wait and see what he decides.
