Hi Hawnstar,
Far as the difference between the HD Ambient Air Temp gauge and Wally's Oil Temp gauge, there isn't any problem with the fit. There is the little print near the bottom of the face. All the HD gauge says "Harley Davidson" and the Wally's gauge doesn't. However, it's such small and fine print you'd never notice it is you didn't look close.

I installed the HD Silver Face gauges to replace the '03 stock gauges and HD doesn't offer a Silver Face Oil temp gauge but Wally's does. The price I paid for the Wally's Oil Temp gauge was $75.00, it's the same price at Wally's whether you order a Dark Face Gauge or Silver Face gauge with or with out chrome. Mine is installed now and I took a ride yesterday. I watched to see how the gauge worked. It seemed to work great. I don't miss the ambient air temp at all.

good luck

The price..........I have installed three of the gauges from Wallys, one on my bike and the other two on friends bikes. They are no problem to install at all. The directions are very clear cut. The longest part of the job was removing the fairings. All the wiring is on your present air amb. gauge. You will run your oil temp. wire up from the sensor to your fairing. all wires are color coded and the instructions tell you what to do with each one.

Pretty comparable, support your local establishment if it works for you, or go for price only. I like to support local when ever I can, if you have problem it's usually easier to remindy locally. You don't have to buy Harley parts from dealer either. We have good local independent in Minnesota [Kokesh Cycle] that sells Harley parts at discount.

I have the spun aluminum gauges and Harley doesn't make one to match so I got the one Rodger McEwan sells. The maker of Wally's gauge. Couldn't be happier. From what I've seen/heard the Harley gauge sending unit is a PIA to install. The McEwan sending unit installs in snap. Only lost about a shot glass of oil.
Originally I swapped the volt meter gauge with the worthless ATG and put the OTG in VMG place figuring it would be better to have both the OTG and the OPG on the same side. Well I have Hogtune speakers and the giant magnet on the speaker will pull the needle off park and "may" cause it to not show the correct temp. I left it that way till just recently when I swapped it back to where the ATG was since it just snowed here and I couldn't ride. Anyway (long winded I know) when installing the gauge, bite the bullet and pull the fuel gauge out. It'll give you more room to work on putting the nuts on. I also made jumpers so I didn't have to cut the factory plugs off in case I ever needed to go back to stock.[:-]
Heres a pic of it in the VM location.

To change out the temperature gage do you remove the outer portion of the fairing and if so how big a job is that?

I ordered mine directly from Rodger

But if Wally is offering it now you may be better off getting it from them. I have the box here in front of me and it says"PART# GK-61537" and marked in magic marker"FLHTCSE" on the top.

msbhvn: The outter fring and it's four bolts and lift it off (unplug the headlight)....the guage installs in 10 minutes if you can use a small wrench, a screwdrive and read....real easy and well worth it!

Yep, that's it.. So Wally's Cycle World now carries them in stock for $89. I'll be ordering mine here shortly.
