BAD GAS???
I filled up with premium yesterday at a 7/11. I don't usually buy anything there but it was on my way to an appt. I drove to the appt. after filling up - maybe five or six mile - no problem. A few hours later when I started the bike it started to run like crap. Missing, sputtering and backfiring. Would barely idle and couldn't risk it a stop lights - kept on the throttle and held her about 1500 rpm or so.
Today I drained all the gas and purged the lines per the manual. Added a gallon or so of fresh premium from a regular source and I have the same problem. Bike starts and runs but not rideable. I mean, its painful to listen to.
Any ideas? Thoughts? Surefire solutions?
Any help is appreciated...
oh yea, bike model and mods in my sig below -

RE: BAD GAS???
First look at the plugs and replace them if they look bad. Then check your spark plug wires, battery terminals and the connections on the other end of the cables. After that check all other electrical connections. After that you are getting into fuel supply and sensors which unless you have the proper tools you should leave this to a qualified shop. Do you have any error codes

RE: BAD GAS???
It sounds like the back cylinder is not firing. I'm going out now to check the plugs and plug wires. The only thing I did was put gas in her. Nothing else has been touched. Maybe the back plug is fouled. I only have a little over 5000 miles on the bike so the plugs should be good.
I get the check engine light on the speedometer guage coming on periodically. Don't know what that means. After I look at plugs I'll hook up to the ECM and look for error codes.
Thanks

RE: BAD GAS???
Sounds like it could be your Crank Positioning Switch. I had the exact same thing happen to my 2004 Fatboy with only about 2k miles on it.
You basically described the exact thing that happend to me. Had to have it towed off the highway to the dealer and they replaced it under warranty.
Just a thought????

I also pulled the plugs and they looked like they were running rich - not suprising but not the problem either. I checked the back plug and it fires but when I install it she sounds like the back cylinder is not firing. When I stand behind the bike (true duals) the right side is load and blows with power while the left side is quiet and blows weak.
I suspect fouled injector but I may just need to run the bike more to see if the Lucas does it's job and cleans things up.
I'll keep the results posted...

RE: BAD GAS???
When you drained the gas, did you put it in somthing clear to look at it? The same exact thing happend to me a few years ago from a shell station, and I found sand in my gas. I drained the whole tank, rinsed it out,put in new gas, and drove it hard for a few miles and it went away. Hope you get it figured out.
