Default New bike?

Howdy,

I'm Alison - I'm new, not new to motorcycling but new to this forum. I was into sport bikes but lost the desire to go real fast (on a bike that is). GOL.

I am in the market for a new Harley and am considering a Road King or the new addition Street Glide. Normally I would ask my boyfriend to help me but he is an EX now - so my girlfriend who's husband is a member told me I could get all the help I needed on this forum. I can't talk to her husband cause he's pissed at me for taking his wife out all the time KittyCatting around - GOL.

Anyway, guys and girls I hope someone will chime in with some helpful suggestions. BTW, GOL is my version of LOL - GOL ='s Giggling out loud. I sold my 03 Hayabusa which was one bad a$$ ride. I think I would have smoked just about everyone of ya' in the quarter.

Either bike is great, I prefer ElectraGlide myself, only my peference. Completely different kind of ride than your used to with sport bike. Cruising along a highway is great way to go with larger bike, no zipping in and out of traffic, like smaller bikes.

Yep you'd smoke us. Welcome to the club. FYI HD touring bikes weigh over 700 lbs. They are a handful.

I will cast a vote for the Street Glide. I got mine in December, much like you I spent enough years laid across a tank, and was ready for a more comfortable mount. SG is nice cuz its big and roomy... I am 6'2 and my GF is 5'10. We used to look like two apes on a tricycle on my VFR. What I like about the SG is that it sits a little lower, so it handles nicer, in my opinion... Also, all the things that folks tend to take off are already off. The radio is awesome. I had to have mine fixed, the CD player skipped, but it is all good now... I am lucky to have a cool dealer and a great guy that sold me the bike...

Also, I like the black and chrome engine... I like the fact that the SG will go all the way around the block no- handed. It feels to me to be much more neutral, cuz I feel like I sit in it rather than ON it, as I felt on the Standard Electra Glide. The Electra Glide is a great bike, I just like whats going on with the SG.

Things to think about... The stock seat sorta sux for two up riding, but most lady riders I know don't do much two up... so that will be up to you.. Also, I do not know how tall you are, but most people find the SG to be a little easier to get on and off of... but it still has plenty of room.

Just a couple of my thoughts, hope they are helpful. I know that I have gotten some great advice, some good laughs, and some ideas from the folks at HDF. Lots of cool peeps here, and I hope you enjoy yourself here.

Keep us posted, and welcome aboard!

Sounds like you may like a v rod but between a road king and a street glide i would go with the street glide because my dad has one and i have road it and i like every thing but the fairing but i love listening to the music.

Don't take any crap from those who think chicks can't ride. I ride with a lot of girls that ride dressers and they all swing them around with no problem. I would have to lean towards the street glide because it has the batwing. I like that look and it's what sold me on the Ultra in 04. I upgraded from a CBR 1000F and will never look back. Granted I started with the Softail after the CBR but still....it's now Harley or nothing.

Good luck and enjoy your new Harley when you do get it.

Welcome to the forum Alison! It's always great to hear from other female riders (there's a few of us here, not a lot, but a great few). Pay no heed to the goings on here with these other goofs. A lot of goof'in around and good humor! Enjoy the ride and good luck on your pick!

After having been pursuing the MATCH.COM thing for quite some time.... I'm skeptical.... Drop-dead gorgeous babe that already knows how to ride AND wants a Harley? Where have you been all my life (ok, most of my life you probably weren't even born, but do you have a Harley mother?).

Nice thing about being female, you could ride about anything on the planet and still be cooler than Joe Dork on his Screaming Eagle Pretentious Glide.... (being funny - not aiming at any SE guys...)
