Default 08 Stage 1, No remapping?

I was at a Maryland dealer today pricing out an 08 FXSTC, he tells me the major differance between the 07's and the 08's is the EFI map allowing better flow. If I want to do SE breather and SE pipes, no EFI map changes are needed. Anyone else have a dealer/shop tell them this?

In my humble opinion, more when you start to modify the intake and output, you need more sophisticated fuel management. That ECU is for the stock setup only. It will allow for minor changes but not high flow adjustments.

If they told you this they are full of it. Prior to pickin up my '08, I told them I wanted a set of V&H BSS. First thing out of their mouths, which I already knew, "youhave to get it remaped". No problem, paid for the remap. But, bottom line, '08s have to be remapped or add a fuel management system. Oh yea, SE AC's are a POS. Had mine replaced at 900 kms. It started to fall apart. Do a search. You will see what I'm talking about.

Love your Fatty, Gunner. Those Big Shots look and sound awesome.

By the way Pmiller, he's right: you really need to do a remap. If you go all the way with either a Screamin Eagle Racer Tuner or a PC-III and dyno tuning, you'll loosen up another 6 - 10 hp, and 8 - 12 ft lb of torque. Not only that, it will run cooler, smoother, won't ping at low revs, and will give better longevity. I'd highly recommend it. Other air filters are available, such as K&N and Arlen Ness Big Sucker.

I recently had my 110 ci dyno tuned, and went from 84 hp to 98 hp, and 99 ft lb to 115. The standard "EPA approved" fuel map strives to get an air/fuel ratio of 14.5 to 1, which is way lean. The dyno tuner will lower the mixture to around 13.25 to 1, and then lean it out where possible in the cruising rev ranges. This way you get optimum power, with crisp response, great pulling power, and more than acceptable mileage. I'm no slow poke, and I got 41 mpg from last tank out of a 110 ci!!! I was damned impressed.

Out of the box, the H-D engineers do a pretty good job to get a smooth fueling bike with all the EPA restrictions on noise and emissions. But to me, a strangled Harley is just a waste. [sm=smiley20.gif]

Good luck, whichever way you go.

I heard that also. The dealer says as long as I am running closed loop that changing the pipes and breather it will adjust to keep the 14.7. I have added the pipes and the breather on the stock ecm but I bypassed the o2 sensors to keep the bike in open loop. The sock ecm is set to 12 to 1 in open loop. Adding the breather and the pipes have made it about 13.5 to 13.8 to 1 afr.[/align]

It's your bike tk. There is a wealth of info on this subject available here. I personally wouldn't take the chance of burnin up the motor by running the bike any leaner than what it already does. I'd check the plugs though and see if your bike is runnin overly lean.

Thanks for the comp quint.

I did have it on the dyno and it is still running a bit rich and that is much better than the stock closed loop at 14.7. I can also touch the engine after riding andI dont have the heat issue any longer.
