Default Cutting front fender brakets on a Road King

Hey guys has anyone cut 1 inch of the support brackets on there front fender to lower it?
I know about the lowering brakets from Native customs, but I don't want to repaint and the down time. It's great in AZ right now.

A friend of mine cut the stock fender brackets off flush with the fender and then used the HD brackets made for mounting a Fatboy fender to a touring bike. Results were pretty sweet. He was into chrome, but you could powder coat the brackets and I think they would blend into a black fender pretty well. If you're carefull with the cutoff wheel and drill, you should not have to replaint to do this. Cheap too.

Here is a pic of how they came out and another one of the bracket I'm referring to. Part number is: 59013-02A, $79.95 from HD with no discount.

Thats a great way to lower the fender. I already have the native customs brackets so hopefully sometime this winter the grinder and the welder will get some use. Would have already started on the fender, but the set of tins I bought for painting this winter sustained damage in transit to me ...

I also installed the Native Custom brackets. I would suggest not using a grinder to remove the stock brackets. The problem is you end of gouging the fender around the rivets. This makes for more body work prior to paint. I drilled each rivet out by starting with a small bit and going up a few sizes at a time. End result was a nice clean hole to weld the new brackets to and very little body filler. Just my .02
