Riding in heavy wind? advice
Seems I almost got blown over the past couple days once or twice. One time I had to get off an open road the wind was so bad. Would like to hear what others think about riding in strong winds. Is there a point where you won't ride in it? Can it blow you over on the road easily? I ride a sportster. Do the larger harleys experience this as well {since I have never been on one on the open road}? Just wondering and would like advice as far as riding in it etc

I've been in some heavy cross winds on my Ultra. Don't know what to tell ya but if it gets so bad you're having control problems pull in someplace and wait. I've never had to do it, but I have thought about it once or twice. Worst part is passing or meeting trucks. Just lean into it and blast on....!

Heading from Sturgis to the Badlands one day during the rally in 2004. The wind was a steady freight train from our left.
I swear we were angled 45 degrees into the wind to stay up. Looked like a racing yacht.
The real problem occurred when the bluffs blocked the wind, and all of a sudden you had to straighten up or fall flat on your left side.
After a while the dance was so ridiculous that I just laughed my *** off the rest of the ride.
Had to lean the opposite way on the way back to Sturgis.
My advise, laughter, or stay indoors,

Out here in Cali we have the "Santa Ana Winds" and if possible I try not to ride on those days. it's just not worth it to me. It's bad enough riding through the cities with potholes and crazy drivers, but to also have to worry about 40+ mph winds. I have way to much invested in my bike and life to also worry about the high winds. I don't know if it's always windy where you live but we only get them a week every couple of months or so, so when I hear on the news that they are coming I'll put the bike away for a few days and wait it out. Good Luck and ride safe.

Today was quite the windy day here in the Chicago area. Nice 65 degree day with sunshine and winds gusting 20-30 at times. Starting out it was a battle especially at highway speeds. The fact that I had three cups of coffee before I started off probably didn't help. Being wired and fighting wind and truck blast is not that much fun. Stopped for lunch and enjoyed some adult hydration. I'm not making a recommendation, but.... the wind after lunch seemed easier to deal with. Still was gusting like before, but it was a bit easier rolling with the gusts than fighting them. Draw your own conclusion.

Ive been in storm winds so bad I had to lean the bike way over to make it down the road. Got pushed across double yellow line a couple of times. I just gased on it (100mph) and held on.[8D]

like others have said its when you come past a wind break where you have to worry. its something you will pick up with time and miles, but be careful or you will be a COBB member befor your time.
