Ya know, something's fishy here.

Atlantic Avenue (a.k.a. Route 806) I'm sure must be considered an evacuation route for the barrier island to the east since it directly connects the beach area to I-95via a causeway bridge. The newspaper article claims that this strech of road does not have state jurisdiction, so the city of Delray has authority to pass/enforce this local ordinance.

If (in fact) this is a designated evacuation route, I'm quite sure the city is collecting state funds for its maintenance and upkeep. That would make their ordance attempts moot because the State is paying for the road.

IfDelray Beach wasMY home turf, I'd be all over this one (on principle).

(anybody understand this differently than I stated?)

I couldn't stand it. I just wrote a query letter to the reporter of the article. Basically a cut and paste of what I stated above.

I'll let everyone know if I hear anything back.

Thanks Rebel Ryder, but I don't think I could ever stay calm enough to be a politician once my fur gets raised.

Yea, maps show this as being SR806 (state road). While the local gov. does have some ability to limit commercial truck traffic and set noise limits, there is nothing I know of that allows them to single out certain a class of legally licensed private vehicles. I think I will be the first in line if this passes waiting to get a ticket. Then maybe I can retire after I sue there a$$ off. Most of these local government officials seem to have their head where the sun don't shine.
