May need your help guys. When I had my t-bars installed, the dealer moved my turn signals down on the forks using a HD relocation kit. The kit attaches to the lower fork brace using the existing screw hole and possible a longer or the existing fork brace screws. At the MB fall rally, I picked up some 49mm relocation clamps from Kuryakyn so I can put the signals closer to the forks.

Obviously, first I need to remove the existing HD kit. Since it attaches with the fork brace screw, is it okay to just pull that screw out, remove the kit, and replace the screw? Any precautions to take so that nothing moves out of place and/or gets out of adjustment? Is there a set torque I need to use when putting the screw back? I don't have a manual yet. If that screw is supposed to be torqued, can someone tell me what it should be?

you need to get front wheel off ground so forks are fully extended torque is 30to35 ft. # on pinch bolts you will also need original bolts as the harley re lo kit bolts are longer

 

I know that the kit bolt is longer so you would need the orginal length bolt to put back once you remove them. I just did mine with the harley kit and all I did was remove the bolt. The kit bolt is longer. Had no problems the top bolt on the trees is still holding them so it dont move. As far as torgue I dont know I just tightned the crap put of them.

 

The only problem I see, being the dealer did the initial install, that kit comes with longer bolts that the original. (not sure if he gave you the original bolts back, if he did, just change em out, no problem)
If not, you may have to cut, grind, whatever to shorten the bolts you have by about 1/2". (just guessing 1/2" from memory, might be more) A dremmel does the work real fast and neat.
Otherwise, no problem.
I need to say, you're lucky the dealer cheated putting those on, otherwise you job would have been 10 times harder.
I'm not sure of the torque, but originals weren't too tight. And yeah, I just did one at a time.
I think this is one of the projects I kinda had to laugh at the instructions, I think it they said to put the bike on the center stand, looked under, hmmm, no center stand.
Somebody at Harley has a sense of humor.

 

They definitely did a cheat job installing this. Good thing, though, because I don't really care for it with the bars I went with. I made them put all my takeoff parts in a box and ship them to me so, hopefully, the original bolts are in there. I've got a friend with a good stand and a good torque wrench so I think I'm good to go. I just need to check and see if he has a torx bit to fit that bolt.

 

By the way, does anyone see a problem with putting the new clamps just below the fork brace instead of above it? I'll have to check for fitment but I've got a feeling my detachable windshield, even when moved all the way up, might get in the way of the signals if I put them above the fork brace.

 

you will also need different cap screws for where the light connects to the brace, as the threading is different on the kury screws and the harley lights

 

Cap Screws???? The Kury guy warned me about the threading possibly being different on the screws provided - is that what you are talking about?

 

yes and the ones in the harley kit are not flat heads, they stick up and will not work with the kurys

 

I'd definitely make a small investment in the torx bits. I bought a small set from Pep Boys, (Harley didn't go that big), for like $10.
I then bought on ebay a whole set, male and female torx socket sets, like 20 or more pieces for under $20 including shipping.
Just a good investment, and something you'll find yourself using alot.
