It would depend on you keeping the bike 5 more years. Never modifying it and the possibility of future problems.
If you spend 1800.00 bucks and have no problems, you`ll hate the fact that you did. If you don`t and something happens you`ll kick yourself for not doing it.[:@]
Myself. I would not. I plan to mod my bikes and I don`t trust anyone to work on them as well. Dealer or not.[sm=thanx.gif]
If you sell it before the warranty is up. Your out. It`s all personal preference. Damned if you do and Damned if you don`t....

If you're mechanically inclined, I'd say dont't do it. If you and the toolbox don't mix well, it might be a good investment for you. I wouldn't do it personally because you can almost buy a really nice performance kit (heads, cams, cylinders, pistons, etc.) for that kind of $$.

One has to ask oneselfwhy the dealership (whose sole purpose is to make money )would call and ask you to extend your warranty if they thought they were not going to win in the deal? The answer is simple. They know the numbers are greatly stacked in their favor that the money you pay them will stay in their pocket. Sure every now and then you'll here someone say "I,m sure glad I extended my warranty because my bike failed after the two year factory warranty" (BUT IT"S RARE). It's just like going into a casino.Sure sometimes people get lucky, but the odds are heavily stacked against you.Unless you rack up a CONSIDERABLE number of miles yearly and plan onkeeping the bike though the term of said warranty , it's a suckers bet. But that's just my take.

If a part or the assembly of various parts survives the intial warranty there's a good chance there is nothing faulty about that part or the installation of that part. If there is a fault with one or the other, most likely the problem will show up during the intial warranty period.
It's not that problems haven't developed in the past beyond the initial warranty period it's just that the odds are in the favor of the people selling the warranties and not the ones buying the warranties.
In all my years of buying bikes and cars I have never purchased an extended warranty and have yet to regret it once. Of course, the way you treat and maintain your equipment could have a large influence on this too.

For some the warranty has paid for itself and others not.If you are planning on keeping the bike for at least5 more yrs.and riding a lot then you will have a piece of mind.
There are manyposts on this subject,do a search and you will have many more opinions.

GAMBLING ANYONE?
What is an extended warranty? A wager between two parties. Look
at what each party brings to the table:
The manufacturer, with all his collective experience, design specs,
intimate knowledge of assembly techniques, tolerances, quality
control, etc., is betting that the product will not fail in any
manner specified in the warranty during the warranty period which
will cost more than the price of the warranty to repair (note who
writes up the terms of the warranty).
You, with no knowledge of the product, have only a vague fear that
it will catastrophically break down during the warranty period and
that repair of such failure will cost far more than the price of the
warranty. On what do you base this opinion? Are you intentionally
buying what you consider to be junk?
Cars, motorcycles, computers, etc., are all
manufactured using statistical sampling techniques for quality
control. The normal warranty that comes with each is an admission
that it is entirely possible (eventually, inevitable) that an
individual product will not live up to the quality of the group. It
allows the manufacturer to catch the odd substandard product and
bring it up to his standards of quality, without having to
exhaustively test each step of each product throughout its
manufacture. Once the product makes it through the initial warranty
period (whether it required service under that warranty or not), the
manufacturer knows that it is "up to snuff," i.e., conforms to his
specs, quality, etc. At this point, he *knows* how long it will
last. An *extended* warranty is not a safety net for the
manufacturer, it is a chance to make money, by making a wager with
the customer concerning the performance of the product -- *his*
product. He knows it better than you.
Do you wanna bet?
