my dyna went 900 miles with no trans oil
at 5000 miles the primeary bearing went and they fixed it and did the 5000 mile service.
i check the tranny oil today and there was nothing in it.took a quart to fill it.it was a little hard to shift and there was alot of heat lately comeing from the motor or trans and there was some little sounds comeing from the tranny at slow speeds but only at some speeds in 3rd and 4th.
took it for a ride tonight and it is shifting good no sounds and no heat.
but what damage can there be from this.right know it seems fine, and what should i have harley do.i do want them to drop the oil and see what is in it.but what should i do it seems fine now ,it is a 07.they were allso doing some chrome on the bike to when they had it on the motor.maybe there was to many hands working on it.

RE: my dyna went 900 miles with no trans oil
Take it back to your dealer and demand a new transmission. Do not leave until you get it. Speak to the service manager, general manager, owner, whoever. There is no way to know how many miles were taken off of your transmission (looking down the road) by this incompentency. Since there's no way to know without completely disassembling the transmission and having it inspected by a competent transmission technician, getting a new transmission is what's going to have to happen. Also, take in your service order which should document the "technician" who forgot to refill your transmission.

RE: my dyna went 900 miles with no trans oil
I checked my motor oil after 1000 miles on the first service check, and it was 1 quart low also,i called the dealer and he told me the kind i used was screamin eagle syn,and just to add 1 quart and see if it uses any more, that when they did my bike they were busy something like 40 bikes ahead of me,so i am going to do that and if it uses any more they are going to replace my motor, give me another bike,or they can repo this one because i am not paying for a new bike that uses oil.

Just another question , What took 900 miles to pull dipstick ? Sounds like bad news to me . Good thing it didn't lock up . There has to be damge ! Live and learn , always check someone elses work . Primary is a different story ,but also a good idea . Have a good fight with your Stealer .

If you go back to the dealer with the attitude that rdondes wants you to have, you'll get nowhere..
Be NICE !! Yep, it's a hard thing to do but the honey is better than castor oil... start with the service writer, ask to talk to the service manager, explain the problem in a calm cool, collected, NON-confrontational manner. Have thempull the RO and find out who the techs were that did the work. Yes, it will take some time, yes, you'll be pissed, but STAY COOL ! Once you get into a yelling match, demanding to talk to owner, threaten lawyers etc etc.. cooperation from the dealer will go away..put YOURSELF in their postion, how would you feel if someone came up to you screaming and yelling and making demands? So be it if someone screwed up badly, we aren't perfect, yes, it was a serious mistake, but, any good dealer will make it right as long as cool heads prevail. Your bike isn't the first that left a dealer with no oil and it won't be the last either. There have been bikes with no oil in the trans from the FACTORY!
Again, it's all about attitude and RESPECT...
Good luck

Opposite problem
Wish you well in getting this resolved. No doubt it will be, hopefully with the minimum of hassle and rancor.
For years, my best practice has been to always check (at least what I can) the work that is done to my cars, truck, and bikes. I decided to have my dealer do the 1000 mile service on my FXDLrather than doing it myself as it was the first service and I assumed they knew what they were doing. I had them put Redline in all three holes, but had to tell the service writer three time that the shockproof went in the tranny and the MTF went in the primary (they only sell HD oil products at this dealership). After the service, I got all of the Redline bottles back and went home.
I get home (thankfully only a couple of miles from the dealership) and unload the Redline bottles - and they're all empty (there should have been 1/2 quart of motor oil left in one of the bottles, right?). I check the oil level to find it is 1/2 quart high. I check the tranny and thankfully they did get the shockproof in there as opposed to the MTF...
I call the service writer up and said "Dude - you put three quarts of oil in my motor. What's up with that?". He then says "Yeah - what's your point? We put three quarts in all motors when we change the oil. That's that capacity of the motor". I then tried to explain to him that at least for a Dyna the amount of oil is 2.5 quarts wet,and 3 quarts is only for a dry motor, but he wasn't buying it. I rode back over to the dealership and showed him in the owners manual and service manual where it indicated 2.5 quarts, then he shows me where under 'Capacities" it shows three quarts and then says "See? There's a typo!". Arggh...
Anyway - I showed him the overfill indicator on the dipstick and had him pull out a half quart and put it back in the bottle for the next oil change. I also asked him how many other customers came back and complained about oil dripping from the air filter. He claimed none and that I was the first to point this out to them. I guess not too many folks check their fluid levels after service.
Anyway - this shows it can happen both ways. I'd rather have too much (at least for a little while) than none, but I'd rather have it right, especially after paying these guys to do a professional job. I'm going back to my initial strategy of doing most of the routine stuff myself from now on (fluids, adjustments, etc.) and just take the bike to them when I don't want to (or can't) tackle a specific job as I've noticed many of you do.
On another note, I've put a few hundred miles on the Redline fluids and all seems to be good. I've not had issues with noise to this point (at least that I can hear) in 5th, and other than the Harley "clunk" it has always shifted well, but with the shockproof it does seem to be a bit smoother and it is easier to find neutral as many have indicated. If nothing else, I feel better with the 20W60 in the motor with the high 90s to 100s we've been seeing here in No. Cal lately so that's good too.
Ride safe and good luck.
