A while ago I posted a question "How far on reserve?" Reason being, I managed 30 miles on a journey home before filling up.You gave a wide range of answers. Well I have been using my 883 for short trips this week and went over to reserve. On my way to work today with just 16 miles since I turned thetap to reserve... splut splut sh*t out of fuel!! Just 16 miles!! Half the mileage of a long journey. Lesson learned..

 

I'm not sure if you have to, but when I fill up I flip it over to reserve to make sure that is filled also. I'm not sure if if fills the whole tank when the gas is on "on" as opposed to "reserve".

 

That got me thinking so I went to Google to find an answer. There is no "reserve" tank, but setting the petcock to reserve allows fuel lower in the tank to be used. Take a look at this...

I would be curious as to which tank you have.. 16 miles is NOT enough in many cases.

 

I agree... if I only got 16 on reserve, I would have the legs of a greek god from pushing the scooter everywhere.

Also, PLEASE do not forget to turn the petcock back to "on" after filling. I guarentee the reserve will be much less than 16 miles[:@](don't ask me how I know)

 

I was shocked too. But I reset the trip when I went onto reserve and it was just 16 miles. I always turn the fuel tap back to on when I fill up. Not sure what size tank I have. I think it's 12 litres.

 

Must be a peanut tank. 3.3 gals. You gotta stop twisting on the throttle at the red lights when you're on reserve.

I have the 1.9 peanut tank and I am lucky to get 10 miles on reserve

 

I know a sporty I ride with on ocasion....she says after reserve its 25 miles max....and she has the small tank
