Default 07 EGC Stage 1 Report-out and Dyno

So this is my report out after getting my Stage 1 upgrade completed yesterday on my 2007 EGC with 4300 miles.

My goals for this upgrade were:
[ol][*]To bring down run temp of the bike, by getting a proper fuel/air mixture.[*]To get the EGC sounding better than stock but not obnoxious loud, but sounding good.[*]To gain a bit of performance all around better running engine.[/ol]
Mission accomplished!

I purchased a package deal from FuelMoto that included the Supertrapp SE pipes, with slash cut baffles, K&N breather kit and the PCIIIusb Model 812-511. This was $787 and my understanding was it came pre-loaded with a map that would be custom for exactly that kit. www.fuelmotousa.com

I decided to have the work done by a guy that has an excellent reputation here in north central Massachusetts and does a lot of racing and has lots of trophys. He's a small Indy and he did my 5000 mile service at the same time. He has a lot of experience with the PCIII which is why I went with it, instead of maybe one of the newer technology wideband systems out there.

He didn't do a Dyno run prior to the upgrade, but I am very pleased with the results.

The agreement was he'd install it and run the Dyno and if it didn't need any tuning, or just a couple cells, he'd charge me $50 for the Dyno run. I was there and he set it up with fans on both sides of the engine and the initial run with the from FuelMoto map had a couple of large waves in it.. one in the lower rpm range from 2000 - 3000 and another from 3500 to 4500. The most concerning thing was that the Dyno exhaust sniffer was showing AFR set in the 14s across all of the low/mid range spectrum. (I will admit here, that I am not positive what the deal was with that.. he didn't sound like he had a lot of faith in the packaged map to begin with, and I am not enough of an expert to say that all was done perfectly in the setup so that it was a problem with FuelMoto..I'm scratching my head on this.)

So, in any event he proceeded to spend the next hour or so doing a cell my cell adjustment with some time in between to let the engine cool off. He used a temp gun to make sure he was running on consistent temps, so we had apples to apples comparison runs.

What I ended up with is in the Dyno chart attached. 72hp and 84.5tq. The AFR being adjusted to about 13 across the entire spectrum.

But, the picture doesn't tell the entire story. The best part of this upgrade was the fact that it has broadly extended my normal riding rpm range. Where I used to always need to keep the rpm above 2500 and idealy a tad higher for being in the "sweet-spot" cruising, now, that has dropped down to feelign very comfortable and cruising nicely at 2200rpm with even nice pull down to 1900rmp without any feeling of lugging at all. The smoothness of the power band and flat tourque curve across the spectrum from 2000 up above 4000 feel wonderful from the seat of the pants perspective!!

The pipes are awesome sounding. It's a great match with the 07 96ci engine. Not too loud at cruise mode.. nice mellow sound, with a sweet purr and then a louder nice sounding bark when you pour gas into the jugs.

I haven't checked gas mileage yet, but I'll report on that once I do. I was getting 40mpg previously.

If you're on the fence about this all I can say is do it! It changes the whole personality of the motorcycle and gives you a much more versatile, freer revving, nicel sounding, cooler running bike. I'm grinning from ear to ear.

Check out this Dyno and let me know what you think.

Excellent report, however, if you're running an AFR of 13 across the board your gas mileage is going to SUCK! I'm at 13.8 and at 40mpg. I definitely can relate with the rpm/lugging advantage of proper tuning. My bike is TOTALLY different and I love riding it now.

Report back asap.

Yeah, it doesn't show on his dyno printout, but when he ran the mouse with a crosshari across the spectrum it showed AFRs in the 13 and some change. Unfortunately the print out doesn't show the numbers for that.

I just LOVE the tone of these Supertrapps!! ...so between that and the wider usable power range I don't care much for the gas mileage. My other bike is a Valkyrie with 6 carbs! it get's 32mpg.. As long as I can go about 140 on a tankful, that's plenty for me, I need a break after that anyway.

total cost for me was $787 for the package. from FuelMoto
$500 for total of installing it all plus a complete 5K service, (might be a little steep, but I don't know a lot of people that know their way around a Dyno like this guy.) Total cost of $1287, but I feel good that the bike is got the proper AFR and not going to casrbon up or run hot on me.. there is absolutely no detonation no matter how hard I back off the gas and at any rpm.

I'm smiling!

Again, I know exactly how you feel. Gas mileage was not a concern for me, just wasn't sure how you felt about it either. I love the feel and performance of my bike. Get out there and put some miles on that puppy!
