Default Removing reflectors from black forks.

Hi

I take it that the orange reflectors on the bottom of the fork legs are stuck on with double-sided sticky tape. If I just rip these off the black fork legs on my 883R will it damage the black in any way, and will the sticky mess left behind clean off the black without being able to tell that something used to be stuck there?

Any advice greatfully recieved.

Also, I've found that Motorex 'Motoline Protect&Shine 645' is fantastic at cleaning the black parts on my 883R, especially the side-covers and the ham-can. It was sold by Triumph dealers here in the UK when I had my Triumph Sprint. It has the added advantage of leaving a thin film on the surfaces so splatted flies wipe off much more easily. Don't, what ever you do, get it on the brake discs. I once cleaned the seat with it - big mistake. I slid all over the place for ages!

Cheers
Colin

If you must remove them I surggest wd40 ..

Just a thought there is noone here that is more vein then me when it comes to appearence of my scoot everything has to be perfect.

I just installed my detachable sissy bar on my nightster it came with optional reflectors to attach to the sidesafter a moment of thought I quickly addhered them to the sissy bar.

Those reflectors serve no purpose to you other then helping people see you..
When it comes to appearence vrs MY OWN personal safety ... mytaste takes a back seat to my visual appearence everytime.

You should be able to heat them with a hair dryer to help remove them.Any adhesive residue left can be removed with goo gone or WD40.

There are so many ways to remove reflector, I found the best way is still hair dryer and WD-40, works every time. Wait till you take the gas tank emblem off, you'll see what I mean. I use half roll of dental floss, can't even get one side off, little heat on it, done deal. I heard fishing line is good too.

Yeah use fishing line but the tape doesn't leave a mess it peels right off. My tape came off in one piece and there was no residue left behind.

Just took mine off with WD-40 and a hair dryer like 128 said. Worked like a charm and left no residue at all

I had to take them off to install my sissy bar. I used brake cleaner. Worked like a champ.

Thanks guys....some really good idea here.

Vertigoenigma.... I too take a lot of care to be visible, but with my headlight wired on and hi-vis jacket at times of low-vis, I can't see those reflectors being of muchuse. However, each to his or her own; and thanks for the comment - it did make me think.
