Last year, against the advice of others I installed the new HD auto tensioner and after 12K trouble free miles I think it really did me in.

I just got my 05 Eglide back on the road after a prolonged wait for wheels from the chrome shop. I noticed a bit of a whine but didn't think to much about it and figured I'd check it out when I got back.

Less than 2 miles from home all of a sudden the motor starts making a loud knocking sound. I shut it down and then thought I might as well try to make it home. The bike seemed to run fine except for the loud knocking sound. Once at home I located the noise in the primary so I pulled the inspection cover and discovered the primary chain was so tight it couldn't be moved the slightest little bit no matter how hard I tried.

Do you guys think I have some major damage (bearing)or could it just be the comp nut or stator? Needless to say I am bummed. Any help would be appreciated.

Put the manual adjuster back on and try it .

 

If it works with the manual back on go to a M6 chain tensioner, I used one for many a mile with good results. It won't over tighten the chain.
