About To Buy... HELP~
I am about to buy a 2004 Heritage Classic from a private seller. I am completely new to Harley but have done some research. If left to my own devices how knows what the heck the outcome will be. I come humbly to the experts here and seek your opinions.
I need to know what you think of the options vs. price of this bike. Belowis the listing on Craig's List. We were able to agree on a final price of $14,500. My only concern is the fact that the bike has a carburetor and not fuel injected. Considering the options and price of the bike should I not worry about this? Also, the bike is teal. Does that make me gay? [:-] Just kidding, but what is the overall consensus about teal?
I anxisouly await your opinions.

RE: About To Buy... HELP~
Sounds like a real good deal to me. Personannly not too into teal but know some "tough" ppl who ride them lol!!!
As far as carberated... I know some who'd rather that and pay more for it (you have more conrtol and can adjust yourself without much technology) but since getting my FI Fatboy, I ustadmit the injested part is nice to have.
Lots of extras saving a ton.. I have to figure by the time I accumulated all that I had well over 20K into my bike... I would get maintenance records/resiepts

Nothing wrong with having a carb and the price and the mileage seem pretty good. The only issue here is the color. Either you like it or you don't. If you don't and think the condition and price are worth buying then you can always get it repainted if you have the bucks. Teal is a cool color but not my choice for a bike. Remember you are investing your hard earned cash and you don't want any regrets after your purchase.

I originally bought a '97 with only 3800miles and love the carb. I've rented the FI bikes while traveling and though they might be different, it's not enough to spend 3-5K additionalto get it on a newer bike. I'm a believer in pre-owned cars and bikes. You can always have your local HD dealer check it out before purchase if concerned. It's a great bike model for local and long rides, and not a bad way to get into Harleys before spending over 20K to see what it's like. You buy and new bike and can easily spend a ton on extras, let alone pipes.
I agree with 1of2.......you better make sure you love or at least really like the color. You'll be spending plenty of time keeping it pristine and riding with others, and perhaps hitting the bike nights and rallys. You really want to enjoy your color, otherwise it'll knaw at you all the time. Remember, there are plenty of used bikes out there, both through dealers and ebay. My local dealer has a number of late model Heritages and Road Kings in the 14-16k range.

I guess I'm odd man out here, but I don't see that many extras. You need to like those long shots, too. Where did I lose it? I see maybe $1,000 in extras. Hand grips and levers don't cost that much and the stage 1 includes those pipes.
The first thing I'd need to do to that bike is ditch that diamond plated seat. I say diamond plated because diamonds are the hardest material known to man.
That bike is 4 years old with the 2008 models coming in 2 or three months. With the newer bigger engines and 6 speeds, I believe the newer bikes are really hurting the value of used.
I recently bought a 2002 Deuce with just 3,700 miles and $4,000 of extras. Seat, backrest, luggage rack, never-installed gennie deuce bags and brackets, stage 1, factory radical paint, lots of chrome, windvest windshield, extra sundowner banana seat and on and on. I paid an even $12k. It was a one-owner local bike and the owner was about 70 years old.
It's teal.
I wouldn't pay that much for a used bike, but it's up to you of course.

In the long run, carburettors are a lot less trouble than fuel injection. They can, for the most part, be fixed on the side of the road on the rare occasion that they don't work right. Can't do that with fuel injection.
If you live close enough to go for a test ride, do it. If you like the bike, buy it. As for the color, you're OK as long as you just call it bluish green and forget its name. Now, if it was pink.....

I'm with jbaker on this one, not that many upgrades. The price seems to be about average. And as fo the color, don't listen to anyone else. Yea it teal, so what! That's one reason I got the color I did, not too many likes it and it don't get lost in a crowd. Bottom line is if you like it, buy it. Ride it and be proud. Have fun.
