New Deluxe puked all over my garage!!
I've been lurking for a while now, picking up some great info. This is my first post.
Just picked up my first Harley, an 07 Deluxe, a couple of weeks back. First good weather was today so I took it for a quick ride before dinner, just 10 miles or so (what a great bike!!). After dinner, I'm heading out for another ride, open the garage and the Deluxe had puked it's oil all over the garage!! It looks like its coming out of a line running from the oil tank - some pics below. Brand new bike - 15 miles total!
The dealer is coming to pick it up on Tuesday (so I guess no riding for me this weekend - first nice weekend here this year [:@])
My questions are: What happened? Has anyone had a similar problem? The bike is a mess, everything south of the oil tank is covered in oil - should I expect the dealer would clean this up as part of the repair? Is there anything else I should be aware of?
Thanks, Tim

RE: New Deluxe puked all over my garage!!
I had something similar happen to me back in 1988 on a new FXR. I don't know if Harley has made any changes in that area so it may be something different. What the dealership told me was there is an internal shutoff (similar to a ball bearing) at the bottom of the oil line. It was stuck in the open position and allowed the oil run out. It sounded strange to me but it took the Dealer very little time tofix. I never had the problem again.

yeah "myride" thats the leakdown check valve, it looks more to be a hose or line issue. The leakdown ussually occurs after sitting awhile and the cases fill with oil and then leaks out.
One good thing though is that it happened when it was parked, that would have been a real suck if it happened while you were riding, oil on the rear tire says " going down fast"... good luck with that, and i doubt they will clean the spill

From the last pic it looks like it could be just a hole in the oil drain line hear were it mounts to the oil tank. If you can get to it pull the rubber line off the oil tank and see if there is a hole. If there is just replace it and fill her back up with oil and off you go.

Well it was the oil drain line as several had suggested - the line had a hole in it that appeared to be a manufacturing defect.
Now for the best part. When I mentioned the problem to my sales guy, he went and spoke to the owner who said he'd pick up the bike immediately (even if he had to do it himself) and get it fixed. True to their word, they came and got the bike, fixed it and delivered it back to my house. I was on the road at 4:00 today And yes, they did shine her nicely! These guys truly went out of their way - boy did I buy from the right dealer!!
Guys - Thanks for your help
