Default Is there a down side to the touring suspension or steering?

When you ask someone which bike they recommend amazingly enough it is the one they own!! LOL

So I will ask a somewhat different question. This forum has the bagger folks in it so I want to know whats bad about a bagger. Specifically the Road King?

Seems to be universally accepted fact that the touring suspension is superior on the open highway. But what about around town?? Is there a steering limitation that makes the Road King a bad choice if most of your riding is going to be around town and not very much on the highway???

Thanks,
Mike

Touring steering geometry is superior....

The forks are set BACK behind the Steering Stem, for a positive highway ride, as well as a nimble city feel....

Why do you think that a good many Mounted Police Officersare on Road Kings and E-Glides??????

They are big bikes with fantastic manueverability.....

I agree that the Eglides are great rides in the handling department. My Ultra can do circles with the forks at the stops feet up, and yet do a credible job on the high speed curves. I had a BMW follow me for 3700 miles last summer, and when we hits the twisties, he complimented me and my bike for how well it manuevered. Said he had to pay attention to keep up. Made me smile.

When you can come to a stop and not put your foot down until the last six inches of travel, that'sa well set up suspension system.[&:]

Only have 4k miles on the 07 RKC, parking lot manuverability is a little tough, mainly because tight spaces stupid people on cell phones, every other speed it is superior in comfort, manuverability is not as good as an RM 250 but better than my prior Jap road bikes.

Huh? I can turn my Street Glide around in 2 parking spaces worth of room without touching a board..........easy. If I had one complaint it would be that at really elevated speeds the touring bikes have a tendency to wallow a bit. Not really a problem but there are a couple of items on the market to correct it. Slow speed, tight stuff the Harley baggers are tough to beat.

The question: "... Whats bad about a bagger. Specifically the Road King?" Are you ready? The bad thing is.... that you'll be so happy you'll won't want to ride any other model. I have a'05 Road King Classic and currently have approx 13,800miles logged on it. Compared to my previous ride, a '99 Fat Boy that I logged approx 24,500 on, it is the BOMB!!!!!! It handles tight corners better, rides on the open highwaybetter. I love it so much, my girlfriend views it as the other woman in my life.

Thanks!!! That is just what I am looking for. The Fat Boy is what I am comparing it to!!! I have narrowed my choices to the Fat Boy, Deluxe and the Road King. But the opinions I get are very much all over the place but it is really good to get the opinion of someone who has had both!!!

Thanks!!!

The God honest truth... I was surprised this bike handled so well. When I first purchased my RK, I expected to drive a tank. When I first rode it, it intimidated me. After a few weeks getting the feel for it, I was testing the limits. Now I drive this bagger like you wouldnt believe.

No lie... you will be surprised. The size does not hurt this nimble Road Warrior.

The suspension is a little stiff when riding solo and no weight. Put weight on it or two up and the suspension is great.
