Default condensation under speedo glass

Does anyone know how to remove the glass from the speedo and how to seal it up so water does not get back in there.

I was told by my dealer that the speedometer is a sealed unit and the glass is lightly coated w/ oil on the inside to curtail the condensation. The speedometer glass on my bike will fog also but the fog dissipates quickly, so I ignore it. Is ythe condensation heavy on the glass backside? I think you'd have to replace the whole unit if it was/is.

this is the information i used to open the speedometer on my 1998 roadking classic. it is from custom speedometers.com..it is not easy and requires a lot of patience...if it is a very small amount like some get with their gas gauge..try using the little silica bags from electronics or the little plastic barrels in vitamin bottles placed in a plastic bag and then use rubber band to hold open face of bag around the speedometer..you may wish to place a very small piece of cloth on the glass as extra protection when doing this...i have used the bag method before and find it much easier....hope it helps.

Money Back Guarantee:[/b] We will return your money on all non custom[/i] speedometer faces, only stipulation is that you install it on your bike, take a picture of it installed and email it to us and then you will get a return authorization # for a full refund not including S & H. All faces are put in a speedometer at the shop to assure proper fitting if there are any flaws they will be hidden by the needle or outer trim ring otherwise would not have been shipped out. We are confidant you will be satisfied after installation, that is why we offer a NO QUESTIONS ASKED MONEY BACK GUARANTEE![/i][/b] Install instructions for Harley Davidson Road Kings, Dyna Wide Glides and ALL Softails These are generic instructions for installing your custom Harley Davidson speedo dial. Some years may change the way you get your dial face off but it’s pretty much the same. IMPORTANT: WE (www.customspeedometers.com) are not responsible for any damage that may occur from you, The Customer or anyone you contract in performing this mod. STEP 1 - Set up your bike to get your speedo off. Make sure you protect your tank and then remove your speedometer / bezel housing from your bike. STEP 2 - Disconnect the power source from the speedometer. Most newer Harley Davidson electronic speedos are this way. STEP 3 - Now, separate the speedo from the bezel so you can work on it. Here is where your patience needs to kick in. Remember, patience, patience, and patience. This is very important. Slowly pry back the speedo ring all the way around using a small flat head screw driver (that’s what we used). Then move up to a bigger flat head and pry again all the way around the dial ring. This will give you the room you need to slip off the glass-housing ring. Be careful at this point because HD Speedo ring housing has a very soft metal and it is very thin so take care not to over bend it. If you do over bend it, make sure your screw driver dent is on the outside of the ring and can be seen. Caution! The metal ring is very sharp and can cut you! STEP 4 - Slip off your speedo glass ring and lay it face up. Do not touch or allow anything to touch the inside of the glass. If you have fogging issues before you started this mod, now is the time for you to clean the inside and apply a “no fog product” to help reduce fogging. The factory already puts this on the underside of the glass so be very careful to keep this glass lint/finger print free. Now make note

I get condensation in my gas gauge every time I wash my bike. Does anyone know how I can remove it so I can seal it with some silicone glue?

I know the gauge just pulls up. Take the wire out of the clip on the bottom of the tank first.

Patience, Patience, Patience. I used only patience, patience - needed that 3rd - cuz I not only butchered up my trim ring, but, I somehow f'd up my glass to - even though I didn't even touch it!

Did a custom face plate - but, rather long story - it came out pretty bad. I need to get a new trim ring- if HD sells one - clean & treat my glass & try again. Either that - or just get a new speedo with the standard faceplate.

*I had the choice of getting my "custom" custom faceplate without it having been cut by a professional - or waiting until he had a large enough batch of faceplates to take to the printer for proper cutting...impatient me chose for to get the custom faceplate myself & cut & apply it to the supplied backing...came out like poop. He's still going to senda pre-cut faceplate - so hopefully I can redeem myself whenever that shows up.

Getting that trim ring might seem hard to pry off - just wait until you try to put it back on!!!

Dealer replace mine under warranty. It got to the point where if the sun hit it,I could barley read the needle. Took about a month for them to get the part. They called me to bring itin, had it back at the end of the day.

Still get just a bit once in a while
