Tilting Motor Works Conversion Makes Riding a Cinch for Everyone
For those who struggle with riding a motorcycle, this tilting trike might just be the answer.
Making Riding Easier
We've seen some unusual bikes in our day, and at first glance, this tilting trike might seem like another one. But it actually serves a very important purpose, and that's to help folks that may not be able to otherwise physically ride a motorcycle do so in comfort. This particular three-wheeled Harley Heritage Softail has been treated to a Tilting Motor Works Trio conversion kit, and SRK Cycles recently took it for a test ride to see just what it was all about.
Best of Both Worlds
For some, the added stability of three wheels is enough to keep them riding in old age. But the problem with a trike is that it doesn't quite offer up the same sensation as riding a two-wheeler. So this particular trike uses two wheels at the front instead of the rear. But it's also more like a standard motorcycle in the sense that you must counter steer into corners to turn.
Works Well
While a traditional trike works more like a car in that regard, this bike has the ability to lean like a two-wheeler. And it all works quite well, as we see in the video. The Tilting Motor Works conversion makes this bike extremely easy and intuitive to drive through the twisties, all while providing the stability of a trike.
Self-Standing
The bike also has a self-leveling feature that allows the rider to keep their feet on the floorboard at all times, even when the bike is stopped. The trike is also self-standing, so you don't have to support the weight while you're at a stop like some other conversions, too.
Big and Heavy
The additional contact area at the front and a robust suspension system provide nothing but confidence-inspiring handling. But there is one pretty large trade-off, as you'd imagine. The conversion kit adds quite a bit of weight to the already-heavy bike, which slows the 0-60 time down to a lumbering 6 seconds or so.
Motorcycle Like
Otherwise, there's really no other downside to the Trio conversion. It's a pretty straightforward installation with no cutting required, so it requires no extra inspections or special certification to drive. And unlike the Can-Am, as our host mentions, the Trio feels more like riding a motorcycle than a snowmobile.
Various Options
Tilting Motor Works offers the Trio conversion kit for a variety of different motorcycles, including a host of different model year Softail and Touring models. You can find more information on this cool kit and scope out all the different customization options they offer by vising TMW's site here.
