Theft is obviously a bad thing, but it's hard not to be impressed by this heist.

Big Heist

Today's thieves are arguably more resourceful than ever, mainly because they have to be. Modern security systems and the abundance of cameras everywhere make things a bit harder on the criminal profession, but it didn't stop a gang of thieves from making off with a whopping $200,000 worth of new bikes from Heartland Harley-Davidson in Burlington, Iowa recently, according to The Hawk Eye.

Old Fashioned Method

What's particularly interesting about this crime is that the thieves didn't go to any extreme measures to avoid being detected. Instead, they gained access to the dealership the old-fashioned way - by smashing a display window, at around 2:40 am.

Quick Work

This obviously set off the dealer's security alarm, which notified authorities. But by the time the police arrived on the scene, the thieves were long gone, along with $200k in motorcycles. Clearly, they were working quickly.

Organized Crime

Currently, the Burlington Police Department is reviewing footage and following up on some leads, but as of this writing, haven't caught the criminals just yet. But if there's one thing that's clear, it's that this job was pulled off by organized criminals, and it might also be linked to another case.

Similar Crime

Back in February, four pricey sports cars were stolen at once from a nearby car dealer. The thieves obtained the keys to the vehicles by breaking into the service department, then making off with two vehicles from the showroom floor and two more on the lot.

One Recovery

Police say this was the work of a professional crime ring that operates in the Midwest. One of those vehicles - a 2020 Ford Mustang GT - was later recovered after it was pulled over in Kansas City, Missouri, and the driver is believed to have been involved in the theft.

Whack a Mole

With any luck, police will eventually catch these criminals, but unfortunately, it's sort of like playing a game of whack a mole. Take one down, and another will appear because the profession of career criminal is just too enticing for some to turn down.
