Mild But Cool

The word "custom" has a broad definition in the world of Harley-Davidson. It's been applied to bikes with a handful of bolt-on parts, as well as bikes that have zero to few stock parts on them at all. This particular Street Bob from German builder Thunderbike falls into the former category, but it's a nice reminder that you don't have to go crazy to create something truly cool.

Proven Formula

Many of the rides we've featured from Thunderbike are completely custom from the ground up, riding on the company's frames and wearing nothing but aftermarket parts. However, this Street Bob retains everything we love about Harley's modern Big Twin bike. That's why it's called "Simply Street," because it uses a tried-and-true formula for success.

Going Wide

Thunderbike added their own fenders front and rear, which gives the Street Bob a wider rear fit for a 200 series tire. The builder also re-spoked the original hub to make room for that large piece of rubber. The new rear fender also features an integrated taillight and turn signals, which is a nice touch.

Subtle Changes

The next step was to add a new seat for improvements in both looks and comfort, not to mention a better visual pairing with the new rear fender. Thunderbike then relocated the rear license plate holder to the side, because they didn't want to cover up that fat tire. And instead of going with an all-new exhaust, they simply replaced the mufflers for some added volume.

Low and Stylish

In terms of suspension, this Street Bob now sits a bit lower thanks to a Stage 2 lowering kit, while Thunderbike's upper fork cover gives it a bit more style. The company also added their own forward control kit and turn signal load equalizer to make the bike a bit more pleasant to operate.

Subtle Changes

Comfort is reportedly good thanks to an upright seating position afforded by the mini-apes and newly re-positioned foot pegs. Add it all up, and you've got a pretty simple bike that many may not even realize has been modified, but those in the know will notice the many subtle changes.

Right Selection

After taking it for a spin, Thunderbike's test rider Kim came away impressed with the way the modified Street Bob handles. "Really cool bike," she said. "You don't have to shift gears much. It’s very easy to ride. I had it under control in at once." Thus once again proving that the right selection of parts is typically all you need to totally transform the way a Harley looks and performs.
