Tailored Line

Among the all-time great movie one-liners is Marlon Brando's retort in The Wild One to Mildred's question, “Hey, Johnny, what are you rebelling against?” Purloining a slice of that attitude, Harley-Davidson recently introduced the 'Wild One Collection,' a tailored accessory line specifically designed for the “Sportster S that works and looks just right.”

Tempting Finish

Accessorizing a Harley-Davidson is almost a rite of passage for new owners. With over a dozen pieces in the collection, the Motor Company confidently claims that you will have “all the elements you need to make the Sportster S distinctly your own.” It might be a lofty claim, but with its top-notch fit and finish, it is a tempting collection.

Faster Design

The Sportster S is not your average Harley-Davidson. It is a whole new kind of motorcycle for the Milwaukee brand. Released in 2021, with the catch-phrase 'Evolution to Revolution,' the design promised to put the 'sport' back into Sportster. A year into riding, owners and critics alike are compelled to admit that the bike is faster than anything else in the Harley-Davidson lineup.

Functional Attitude

Even the harshest naysayers will have to acknowledge that the product design team at Harley-Davidson HQ nailed the Wild One Collection. It has a rough and rugged aesthetic that perfectly matches the Sportster's all-business, performance attitude. Just over a dozen items are on offer, from functional bits like footpegs and handgrips, to dress-up accessories such as engine medallions.

Communicate Style

The Wild One Collection features anodized black or gloss black finishes, along with machined aluminum highlights. The showcase of cohesive accessories leans heavily toward the 'dog tag style' branding with HDMC, short for Harley-Davidson Motor Company, appearing front and center. In design parlance, “the variety of textures and exposed hardware communicate power, speed, and performance.”

Dent List

Among the big-ticket items in the collection, mirrors and hand grips top the expense list. A pair of Wild One mirrors will put a $219.95 dent in the pocketbook, while the rubber and billet aluminum hand grips will grab hold of another $129.95. As the saying goes, “a bird cannot fly on one wing,” so matching footpegs are a requirement.

Peg Ring

On the compelling side are the Wild One Rider Footpegs, but they open yet another rabbit hole. A pair of front pegs costs $149.95, but to get the complete look, passenger pegs will double that expenditure. A matching shifter peg will ring up another $49.95, and not to be lopsided, a Wild One Rear Brake Lever rings the till at $99.95.

Rebel Question

All tabbed up, the complete Wild One Collection will cost just over $1300. On the practical side, Harley-Davidson also offers a quick-release windshield and tail bag. When Peggy Maley as Mildred in The Wild One asked Johnny that quintessential question, he answered “Whadda' you got?” Seems the Motor Company has quite a lot to satisfy the Sportster S rider's inner rebel.
