AMD World Championship Qualifier in Austin

This past June, bike builders from across the United States met in Austin for the annual Republic of Texas Biker Rally (ROT Rally).  The sweltering summer event hosts tens of thousands of bikers, lining the streets of the Texas capitol with miles of shiny chrome and black leather. Among the attractions at the 2019 ROT Rally was the West Coast AMD Qualifier Custom Bike Show. The three-day event was billed as bike show featuring rolling art, custom motorcycles and a lounge area with a full bar.

Famous Builders

Sitting around on plush couches drinking craft beer may seem at odds with the grease and gasoline fumes lingering around most motorcycle garages but the event drew in its share of VIPS.  Tom Dixon, former AMD World Championship hopeful and the crowned King of Builders champion circulated the builders’ area while Xavier Muriel, Buckcherry drummer and Austin’s own native son, was also in attendance.  Aside from playing percussion in a world-famous rock band, Muriel is also a custom bike builder.

Free Style

Awards were given in four categories; FreeStyle, Garage Builders Open Class, Custom Street – Division One and Custom Street – Division Two.  According to two the AMD contest rules, “FreeStyle: Anything goes, is a 2- or 3-wheel drivetrain/chassis motorcycle configuration as defined by the DMV.  The Garage Builders Open Class: This class is for fabricators that wish to show and promote their business rather than compete. This class is also ideal for any garage builder wanting to show off their talents and maybe prepare for more serious competitions in the future.  Custom Street – Division One: Must start with 1985 (1984 EVO’s will be included in this class) later major OEM engine and frame as a base. Must maintain original engine cradle configuration. The neck may be cut to rake or stretch frame. Hardtail sections and wide tire alterations are acceptable. Must be a two- or three-wheel motorcycle configuration as defined by DMV.  Custom Street – Division Two: Must have a 1984 or earlier OEM engine, replica engines are not allowed. Custom or stock modified frames are acceptable. Must be a two- or three-wheel motorcycle configuration as defined by DMV.” – West Coast AMD Qualifier Custom Bike Show classes provided by the 2019 Republic of Texas Biker Rally (ROT Rally).
