More Variants?

The Pan America is one of Harley-Davidson's newest motorcycles, an adventure-based bike that expands the company's appeal to another subset of riders. Thus far, the Pan America has certainly found its niche as a strong seller for H-D, and as such, it shouldn't come as a surprise that at least one other variant is reportedly in the works, according to Motorcycle.com.

Mysterious Leak

This particular variant is expected to be called the Pan America 975, which was originally "leaked" earlier this year as it was mentioned on an H-D web page for an accessory locking fuel cap. That part is said to be compatible with the Pan America 1250, 1250 Special, and two mysterious models - the RA975 and RA965S.

New Evidence

Reading the tea leaves here, it seems as if both of those models will be powered by Harley's 975cc version of the Revolution Max, which is already present in the Nightster. However, new evidence of Pan America 975's existence has since emerged that adds even more fuel to the fire.

Revealing Instructions

This new proof comes to us from the U.S. installation instructions for a pair of accessory mirrors for Revolution Max-powered Harley bikes - the ’66 Collection Round Mirrors and Empire Mirrors. There, we can clearly see that the instructions apply "for all models except RA1250S."

Notable Wording

That's code for the Pan America 1250 Special, and this sentence is notable because non-Pan America Revolution Max-powered bikes like the Sportster S and Nightster come with bar-end mirrors that require installing handlebar mounts for the accessory mirrors.

Glaring Omission

The instructions for other markets, however, state that they apply "for all models except RA1250S and RA975S," which is an interesting revelation. This would suggest that while the Harley team managed to remove that model from almost all of its sites, it missed nine other countries in total, probably because none of them are listed on the company's official site.

Coming Soon?

If all of that isn't enough, the NHTSA's Safety Issues and Recalls page also contains three service bulletins for a 2022 Harley-Davidson RA975 and RA975S. Add up all of this evidence, and it certainly seems like these new Pan America 975 models are indeed real, and on top of that, it wouldn't be surprising if both are revealed very soon.
