Fresh Product

Harley-Davidson continues to churn out more and more new models in a supreme effort to appeal to as many types of buyers as possible. Not to mention getting into just about every market segment there is in the two-wheeled world. Their latest forthcoming models, the Bronx and Pan America are perfect examples of that. And now, MoCo has filed patents for both a new cafe racer and flat track model that promise to continue this rapid expansion.

Power Options

Like the Pan America (pictured) and the Bronx, the new cafe racer and flat track models will be powered by Harley's liquid-cooled Revolution Max engine. It isn't yet clear which displacement they'll employ, however. Currently, the Pan America is set to utilize the 1250 cc powerplant, while the Bronx will be powered by a 975 cc unit.

Notable Features

The new flat tracker features a single, oval-shaped headlight that resembles the one on the Fat Bob. Other notable features include a tubular swingarm, high-mounted twin exhaust, and neutrally set foot pegs mounted behind the swingarm pivot. It's also quite clear that the model features dual front disc brakes.

Drawing Conclusions

So what do you all make of this?

Cafe Style

The cafe racer model provides quite the contrast to the flat tracker, with a host of modern and sleek styling features like a short windshield and cafe-style headlight housing. The exhaust is mounted lower in a more traditional position, however, and the handlebars are also mounted quite low.

It Takes Two

Footpeg position is also quite high and located more toward the rear than the flat tracker. The cafe racer also utilizes dual front disc brakes and an upside-down fork but has dual shocks in the rear, which are attached to a more traditional dual-sided swingarm. And if you look closely, it appears that the cafe racer is designed to accommodate a passenger as well.

Master Plan

Both of these bikes appear to be poised to appeal to two completely different kinds of riders, of course. And that's exactly what comprises Harley's master plan right now. Build out their lineup and shed that old "cruiser" label that has been attached to the brand for so long. Soon, we won't be able to shoehorn Harley in one particular peg any longer.
