Act of Heroism

Harley-Davidson and the folks that ride its motorcycles have always been staunch supporters of veterans, whether that be via hosting rides to raise funds for those in need or simply providing them with a hobby that's both incredibly enjoyable and full of camaraderie. But when a veteran named Brian "Amarok" Critton sprung into action to help someone in need recently, he was rewarded in a big way for his act of heroism.

Springing Into Action

According to News4Jax, Critton was riding his Harley to a Wounded Warrior Project event back in March when he happened upon a crash where one of the vehicles was on fire. The woman who was in the vehicle told him that she couldn't move, so he quickly helped get her away from the car, which was leaking gasoline and various other fluids.

Startling Scene

"It was heartbreaking," Critton said. "I was concerned the car was going to blow up. I'll burn before I'd watch her burn." He was also understandably angry after noticing that one of the other drivers involved in the crash was still sitting in his vehicle on his phone rather than trying to help. "The only thing I said is, 'What are you doing?'" he said. "I was trying to figure out why he was just staring at her. I can't understand."

Helping Others

"After so much time in the military you get used to hanging out with a certain group of people," Critton said. "I can't function around people whose hearts and spirits are in the wrong place. People don't realize how many people would kill to go back in time to save a life."

Proper Reward

Thankfully, Critton was in the right place at the right time, and he was more concerned with saving that woman's life rather than protecting his own. Such a heroic act deserves recognition, and he got precisely that with a brand-new bike from Harley-Davidson’s G.I. Enthusiast Collection.

Advocate

Critton was gifted his new ride at Wounded Warrior Project's headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida, a fitting location since he's so involved with that particular organization already. Before that, Critton spent a decade in the Army, including a tour in Iraq, and now advocates for veteran's mental health.

Something To Look Forward To

"Wounded Warrior Project got me from sitting in a corner, which is the worst thing you can do when you have PTSD, be alone by yourself, just think on the bad that happened in your life," Critton said. "Wounded Warrior Project has taken me out of that corner and given me stuff to live for, to look forward to in life."
