Sold Out

Carved from a block of Americana and wrapped in nostalgia, the 2021 Electra Glide Revival is the first in a series from Harley-Davidson's new Icons Collection. Inspired by the 1969 FLH, only 1,500 of these single-production models were released in early May. Most definitely getting the King's approval, the Revival is now all but sold out.

Modern Reception

Harley-Davidson has done what has been discussed in every garage for eons—build a vintage machine with the latest technology. Described as an 'extraordinary series of motorcycles,' Motor Company marketing launched its campaign with the catchy phrase. 'Iconic rides for modern times.' The Revival was initially met with a mixed response, but now, even detractors are being swayed.

Past Moments

Deservedly, the Revival comes with some bragging rights. In a recent video spotlight, Vice President of Styling & Design, Brad Richards, spoke about the rationale and the inspiration behind bringing the unique collection to life. He reflected, “Every time I walk through the museum, you see almost 120 uninterrupted years of very, very iconic moments from our past.”

Yearly Reproduction

The overall intent of the Icons Collection is to release a limited run of similar, modern reproduction machines, on a yearly basis. Richards then cut to the chase and claimed a wide swath of motorcycling history. He emphatically stated, “Electra Glide Revival is going right back to the roots of what made Harley-Davidson 'Grand-American' touring so special and so unique.”

Fitted Touchstone

Dubbed 'time capsules,' in factory parlance, the Revival's vintage-styled parts are built at the Harley-Davidson Tomahawk Operations. Nestled in Wisconsin’s Northwoods, about 230 miles northwest of Milwaukee, the facility dates back to the Motor Company's boat building days. Building touring bike parts since 1963, the plant produced the original 'batwing' fairings that were first fitted to the 1969 FLH—the Revival's touchstone.

Specific Match

Often emulated, the fairing has come to define Harley-Davidson touring bikes. Also locking the Revival to the past is its classic paint job. The distinctive white touring accessories were more a product of manufacturing constraints than a conscious design choice. Back in 1969, the fairing and saddlebags were only offered as accessories, so they were not painted to match any specific machine.

Latest Player

Priced the same as a new Street Glide at $29,199, the Hi-Fi Blue Electra Glide gets a bump up in power compared to its equal. The Milwaukee-Eight 114 powerplant is bundled with cruise control and ABS brakes as standard features. Opting for an improvement on the vintage 8-Track player, the Revival is fitted with Harley-Davidson's latest Boom! Box GTS infotainment system.

Sexy Move

True to form, Harley-Davidson is again splitting opinions with this latest release. With more from the Icons Collection on the way, there will certainly be plenty to debate. Perhaps Elvis Presley said it best, “I'm not trying to be sexy. It's just my way of expressing myself when I move around.” Ladies and gentlemen, the Revival has definitely 'left the building!'
