Finding Inspiration

Every year, Harley's King of Kings competition brings out the best custom builds from across the globe in a massive battle royale for bragging rights. The Iron 883 you see before you, dubbed Black Power, wasn't part of that competition, but it was inspired by Thunderbike's 2017 entry, a similar build called the Custom King.

Keep the Theme

Black Power is based on an Iron 883, of course, but it's been fitted with a vast array of aftermarket goodies and a new black paint job. But like most King of Kings builds, it's also designed to retain much of Harley's stock flavor, so there's no wild custom frame or a bunch of one-off stuff present.

Longer and Lower

The theme of this build was drag style, and that look is achieved mainly by the installation of an extended swingarm, which gives the bike a fatter and longer appearance fit for the quarter-mile. Then, it was given a bit of a narrower look thanks to a lower seating position and the tank pin-up kit.

Jazz It Up

Thunderbike's own mounting kit also lowers the positions of the speedometer and headlights to match the rest of these components. The German builder then supplied its own Torque series in-house air filter and matching ignition and clutch cover to jazz up the looks a little.

Drag Appeal

Out back, you'll find the brand's custom side mount license bracket, license plate frame, and license plate lighting, a signature item on most of Thunderbike's builds. But it's the Dragbar handlebar that gives this Iron 883 most of its dragster appeal, without a doubt.

Rounding Out

Rounding out this build are Thunderbike Alu Brass toppers, a 4" digital speedometer, coil relocation kit, Stripe Mini LED rear turn signals, Progressive Suspension 412 shocks, a Vance & Hines exhaust, and Rizoma Mini Club S front turn signals.

No Cutting Required

The finished product certainly looks fast standing still and proves that the right selection of parts can really transform the look of a stock Harley. But Black Power is also proof that you don't have to go crazy with a welder and saw to create a bike that truly stands out from the crowd, too.
