Top Shelf Tourer

Harley-Davidson is turning 120 years old in 2023, which makes it a notable year for that reason alone. However, the Milwaukee-based motorcycle maker also rolled out a handful of new products for the new model year, including the completely revamped CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide. These top-shelf touring machines have plenty to offer those that prefer the best of the best when it comes to long-distance riders, but these are the most notable facts one will want to know about the new CVO Street Glide, in particular.

Ride Modes

The 2023 CVO Street Glide comes equipped with three ride modes - Sport, Road, and Rain - each of which features its own unique calibration in terms of engine maps, engine braking, throttle maps, and traction control settings, which can be altered with ease. As one might imagine, Sport mode is perfect for those times when you want sharper throttle response, while Road and Rain dial things back a bit for more laid-back cruising - or riding in the wet, of course.

Big Engine, Big Power

The heart of the new CVO Street Glide, of course, is its Milwaukee-Eight 121 powerplant, which churns out a healthy 115 horsepower and a beefy 139 pound-feet of torque, the latter of which at a rather low 3,000 rpm. It's always ready to provide grunt when you twist the throttle, and thanks to Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology, it operates in a super smooth manner to boot.

Liquid Cooled

In this case, liquid cooling helps keep the temps down when riding in the blazing hot summer. The new CVO Street Glide accomplishes this in a number of ways, including new cooling channels in the revised heads, as well as a pump that feeds coolant to the hotter rear cylinder before the others, which then circulates to the front cylinder and back to the radiator mounted behind the front wheel for optimum cooling power.

Styling

For 2023, Harley wanted to give its CVO Street Glide a more distinctive look while also keeping with tradition - after all, you can't ditch that iconic batwing fairing, which has been around since 1969. The new model features arguably the most radical styling changes to that element, however, and from tip to tail, that's also the case, with things like the teardrop tank getting a crease on each side to make it look a bit different - and a bit more modern.

Tech

A far cry from Harley models of old, the new CVO Street Glide comes equipped with a brand new cockpit design touting a 12.3-inch diagonal touchscreen TFT display with three customizable layouts - Sport, Tour, and Cruise. Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth capability are baked in, and voice commands make things like navigating or just changing songs easy without having to take your hands off the handlebars.

Aerodynamics

Of course, all of those styling updates are every bit as functional as they are nice to look at. Compared to the outgoing model, Harley says the new CVO Street Glide offers up an impressive 60 percent reduction in helmet buffeting, which can be attributed to the new windshield and fairing that create a turbulence-free air pocket.
