7 States Where People Own the Most Motorcycles
These seven states have more motorcycle owners than the rest.
Fascinating List
Though times are certainly changing, one thing remains constant - Americans love their motorcycles, and they continue to purchase and ride them in large quantities. However, motorcycle ownership isn't exactly what one might call even across the U.S., which makes sense for a number of reasons ranging from weather to the number of scenic places each state offers riders. Recently, Cheap Insurance gathered data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) to determine which states have the most motorcycle owners, and the results are truly fascinating, to say the least.

North Dakota
This particular list takes into account not only the number of registered motorcycles on the road, but also, how that figure compares to each state's population. In that regard, number seven on our list is North Dakota, a true seasonal riding state if there is one. In that state, there are currently 35,589 registered motorcycles on the road, which equates to 454 per 10k residents.

Maine
Coming in at number six on our list is Maine, which has a total of 63,835 registered motorcycles on the road currently, which equates to 457 vehicles per 10k residents.

Iowa
Iowa ranks fifth on the latest version of this list with 171,380 motorcycles currently registered in that state, which means that there are 534 two-wheelers for every 10k residents there.

Wisconsin
Next up, in fourth place, we have Wisconsin with its 320,021 registered motorcycles, which isn't a huge surprise given the fact that Harley-Davidson is headquartered in Milwaukee. That figure equates to 541 bikes per 10k residents, too.

South Dakota
The third spot on our list goes to another motorcycle-friendly state - South Dakota, which is where the massive Sturgis Rally takes place each year. That state has 54,596 registered motorcycles at the moment, good enough for 594 out of every 10k residents.

New Hampshire
The state with the second-most registered motorcycles in the U.S. is New Hampshire, which has a total of 90,235 bikes on the road - good enough for the second-highest rate of 644 bikes per 10k residents, too.

Montana
Finally, we have Montana, which has a "mere" 77,212 registered motorcycles on the road currently, but given its sparser population, that equates to a whopping 682 bikes per 10k residents - good enough to take first place on this particular list.
