Historic Rides

Having been around for more than 120 years now, Harley-Davidson has certainly produced its fair share of historically important motorcycles. These days, it's hard to imagine a world in which MoCo didn't exist, but looking back, there are many memorable moments that helped make that happen - as well as those that fueled the company's long-term success and even changed the course of history at the same time.

Harley-Davidson WLA

First up, we have the legendary WLA, which which was produced from 1940 to 1952. H-D cranked out tens of thousands of these bikes over those years, but many of them served a more important purpose in World War II. Then there were the soldiers returning home from war, who flocked to this model in throes and modified them, creating a whole new generation of Harley enthusiasts in the process.

Harley-Davidson EL Knucklehead

Then there's the EL Knucklehead, which entered the motorcycle world back in 1936 and forever changed it. It marked a massive and critical departure from Harley's flathead days, ushering in the arrival of a more reliable design that has since become one of the most coveted and collectible Harleys of all.

Harley-Davidson XLCH Sportster

It's hard to believe today, but the XLCH Sportster actually debuted way back in 1957, a bike designed to compete directly with smaller, lighter offerings from British companies at the time. Harley designed the original Sportster with input from its customers and dealers, and the result was a now-iconic model that's still around today, decades later.

Harley-Davidson FLH Electra Glide

In 1965, the FLH Electra Glide introduced a series of innovative features to Harley-Davidson motorcycles - chiefly among them, a 12-volt electrical system and electric start. Harley also offered a special accessories package with popular options that riders were adding to their bikes via the aftermarket, and a few years later, they could also add a fairing and other kits that are commonplace for touring machines today.

Harley-Davidson FXST Softail

In 1984, the FXST Softail became the first new model to emerge from Harley following its purchase from AMF, which came equipped with the brand new Evolution powerplant and a new frame design that relocated the rear shocks underneath the seat. It was more powerful and reliable than the outgoing Shovelhead, which helped propel Harley to success for many years to come.
