NO RESPONSE In TOURING - 05 to 08 WHEEL SWAP
I just put new wheels and tires on my 2005 Road Glide. My buddy has a 2008 Ultra with laced wheels that he hates (cleaning). He wants my 2005 stock silver 9 spoke wheels for his 2008 Ultra.
It looks like per the HD website, as long as we install the correct Wheel Installation Kit with the 25mm axel spacers, seals and bearings we would be good.
But what about the rotors (he has Brembos, NON-ABS) and the cush drive on the rear wheel.
Anyone ever do this before and have any solid advice? I would love to get rid of these wheels, already taking up too much room. And money would help offset my costs for the new wheels.
Thanks fellas.

The bare wheels from all 02-08 9 spoke models are the same, If he orders the correct bearings then he is good to go. On the 08 models the cush drive application is made to work by way of an adapter on his current 08 rear wheel. Simply mount on the older model wheel. His discs will bolt right up.

SC, thanks for the the detailed response picking up all issues. It makes sense since 2008 Touring bikes are the in-between models that they just used the older wheels with adapters to make it all work before they did the full change over in 2009.
The bearing issue is actually clear on the HD website, cush drive and rotors were the concern. I have 2000 4 piston calipers on my 97 WG, which you are not supposed to use with the 2 piston rotors. But the newer rotors don't mount to the pre-99 wheels. I have been running this setup for at least ten years and over 20k miles with zero issues.
Sometimes the MoCo is too careful. They really should be more upfront with parts that are compatible with different years and models, even if the require a slight mod.
Thanks
