Default Metzler issues?

Has anyone heard of the Metzlers having issues lately? I went to my local indy to price tires. He was pushing the Dunlop 591 since he has seen issues with the metzlers lately. He also told me that he was at a trade show and most of the other shops were saying the same thing. I'm a little leery of his story since he told me that he was giving me 20% off the dunlops but, they were at the MRSP when i double checked the prices. I think i'm going to get the Metzlers. I just wanted to make sure that they weren't having issues.

We carry ME880s here at WanaRyd and have not heard of any issues with the Metzeler - Most of our customers choose Metz over Avons. Ryd Safe!

Although any brand tire can have it's problems, I really think this Metzler issue is an "urban myth" that has been traveling around on the internet for a while.
I've seen pics of a Metzler tire with chunks of rubber falling off, but that was once, and I think it could happen to any brand depending on conditions.

I'm having a new set of Metzler ME880's put on my bike within the next few weeks. I have no concerns at all................

I have had the Metzler 880 on front and back for 8 years now, and get 12K out of the rear with great performance, and 24k out of the fronts. I run the rear down to the belt most years, and then do all of my seasonal maint. during the coldest weeks of the winter. I've not had, or heard of any issues with the Metzlers, and I push 'em hard. Ride on!

A couple of months ago I saw this at a local bike hang out. I didn't get chance to talk to the owner. Some folks think it could be caused by a too long seat bolt. While that is a possibility, I don't think that's what it is, otherwise there would be a long goove all the way around the whole tire. A bystander did mention that the owner is aggressive and likes to acclerate hard and chirp tires. We left before we had a chance to talk to the owner. I hope he's okay.

I wouldn't even think of going anywhere on that tire.
