Default 21" front rim/tire on touring model

I am considering a 21" front wheel for my road king. I spoke with HogPro about ordering one of their 21" 8 Spoke wheels with rotors and tire all mounted up and shipped. They said it will bolt right on with no mods needed to the bike. I was wondering if anyone else has made this mod and if I shoould expect it to go that easy.....since nothing ever does.

I called HogPro back and got a different adviser who said the front fender mounting holes would have to be slightly bored out so that the fender could be mounted slightly higher to avoid having the tire rub at high speeds when the tires get hot. Now I'm leaning towards going with 18" but I like that 21" look.

Saw a segment on American Thunder recently where they installed a 21" on a Street Glide. If I remember correctly they claimed no modification required

Not a RK but I did it on my EG with no mods needed. But I did lower the suspension at the same time and the rear wheel is a 18 instead of 16.

If you're worried about tire growth, get a slightly smaller tire for the 21" wheel.

Not for your benifit (you already know this), but a larger diameter wheel with a same diameter tire means the sidewall will be very short. Thatcan improve handeling, but usually degrades ride quality. If crisp handeling is your goal, it's worth it.

Are "crisp" handeling and looks the only advantage to going with larger than stock wheels? I have seen the 22-24" big chrome wheels on cars and just thought it was for looks and to put out more money when it was time to get new rubber. I am planning on an 07 Road Glide and thinking over what things I want to do to improve it. If there is a site that explains the pros and cons of going with larger diam. rims or a link to another thread, it would be greatly appreciated.

I saw the same episode and they did if fact install a 21" rim on the front and an 18" on the back and did no fender modifications whatsoever.

if you go to an 18 inch wheel on the rear, how much bigger is the diameter? no speedo problems?

I am doing a 21"/18" on my Roadglide and have asked lots of questions. The following is what I have been told. (I sound like Joe Friday on Dragnet...Just the facts Ma'am).

The only mod I have heard of, if any, isboring the front mounting hole for the front fender for front tire clearance (don't burn your paint). Hogpro told me the Metzler tires minimize heat expansion and that is the tire they recommend. An 18" on the back does not change the height of the bike so I am assuming it doesn't change the overall diameter of the wheel/tire combo so that shouldn't be a problem. A 21" on the front will raise the front of the bike about 1". The ride will be sportier as someone else said and not quite as plush.

Good luck!
