Performance Machine Products and Service
Caution buying Performance Machine products! I spent $4,600 about 11 months ago on wheels, tires, rotors, brakes and a matching drive pulley after visiting the PM sales booth at Biketoberfest in Daytona.
After 7,500 miles, the teeth on the drive pulley are almost sharp enough to cut your finger. The belt squeaks terribly. The mechanic at the HD shop called PM to ask about a replacement and was told the old pulley would have to be sent back for inspection. Wishing to avoid the delay, I visited the exact same PM booth at Biketoberfest last week and had the manager examine the pulley. He took closeup pictures and agreed the pulley needed to be replaced. He said to have the tech people from PM call him to discuss the matter.
Today PM informs me that the pulley must still be sent back to California for inspection. They don't care what the manager has to say and aren't interested in looking at his pictures. If they can't repair it, it will take up to 4 weeks to manufacture a replacement. I guess they can't rely on statements from a reputable HD mechanic, the opinion of the manager of the PM sales booth, or his close-up pictures.
Living in Florida where I ride the entire year, it is unacceptable that my bike will be down from 1 to 2 months while the pulley is being sent back and forth and a new pulley made. Not exactly the type of service I was expecting from Performance Machine.

Update on Status
I just got off the phone with PM. The matter has been resolved.
PM agreed to manufacture a replacement pulley. I will pay for the new pulley once it is finished at which time PM will ship it. This arrangment will allow the mechanic to remove the old pulley and install the new pulley at the same time. The old pulley will be shipped to PM. If PM agrees the pulley is defective, they will reverse the charge on my credit card. This arrangement avoids any down time on the bike and satisfies me as I am confident the pulley is defective and the charge will be reversed.
By the way, I stopped by Cycle Rama yesterday, which is the highly respected company that did my motor build. They inspected the pulley and agreed it was worn and needed replaced.
Thanks to PM for working in good faith to resolve the matter, and to those of you who posted to offer assistance.
