Looking to replace my wheel bearings when I do the rear tire soon on my '06 SG. Hoping
to find some from SKF, Nachi or another supplier rather than MOCO's that seem to fail
too soon - recently anyway. Can anyone help me out with manufactures cross reference
numbers? The charts I've looked at don't show Harley at all and need a cross for HD's
9247 bearing. Also, wondering where Drag's bearings are made??? Tnx in advance.

 

Most of the aftermarket bearings come from China so heads up . Hit a local Indy shop and see what they can do for you or pick up a used from them to take to a local industrial bearing supply house locally . They will be able to cross reference and educate you a bit on the grades available for longer life . Good luck .

 

Current wheel bearings are available to fit 3/4", 1" and 25mm axles, but with the same OD, to fit all wheels. I suspect they are not a stock size, but special to H-D. It may be there are no substitutes available.

 

Can't remember the numbers but I use SKF. Usa, Sweden or Germany. They have them.
But get them from a industrial vender--less that 15 dollors each.
Or as said, online 8 for $15. Thats not for me.

Gunny - I need the 52mm x 21mm x 1 inch for my '06 SG. Told by three different
vendors that not available - metric & 1 inch. Got any info?

 

That would be 52mm x 21mm x 25.5mm ( or 26mm ) not 1 inch vendors take that part literally they don't associate very well doing cross overs like that I've found .

The bearing size mentioned by the OP is correct and is readily available. They measure the axle size (3/4" or 1") X 52mm OD X 21mm thick. The 25mm axle is 6mm thinner thus allows for a ABS sensor in all stock (2000 ~ current) FL front wheels.

The 21mm wide bearings have a double row of ball bearings, the 15mm wide is found in the new style wheels and has only a single row of ball bearings. There is also a 25mm (ID) bearing with a double row of ball bearings. These are also 21mm wide and a recommended upgrade for all of those without ABS. Of course the outer wheel axle spaces must be shortened to accommodate the thicker bearings.

There are many makers of bearings and a few great ones are located in China. The pricing is not as cheap as the non-industrial ones people buy on e-Bay. All machine parts have tolerances and that should be the factor you should look for in purchasing and not the country or origin.

 

Go to skf site and look at the single row bearings for your size, may have to look around a little bit but you will fine the size you need.

In my experience the thing for the bearings to live is to install the carefully. Do not jame them in. One side goes in to the lip there. Then the spacer. Then the other side till the inner race Just touches. Just touches is the thing. If jammed in hard or even just a little bit too much the ***** are hard against the races inside the bearing. Short life.
