Default anyone running MU85B 140-16 on rear of softail?

Its time for a tire. Ive been running a MT90/16 dunlop 402 wide white wall on rear. I was told to put a MU85B/140-16 on the rear, that it is a little wider which makes it handle better, has a higher load rating and is 11/32 tread verses 9/32 on the MT90-16. Is this correct and is anyone else running this size on a heritage softail?

My concern is that the wider tire may hit the belt. can anyone help me with this before I buy a tire. If I knew it would fit Id definitley get the wider one. Thanks!

Depends what year your bike is. I don't have a softtail, but have fitted that size and also a 150/80 on a 1990 Glide. If you have the 1 1/2" wide belt you will find things are close. I trimmed my belt guard to get the 140 in and had just 3/16" clearance between it and my belt.

If you have a later bike with narrow belt you should have enough room. Theoretically the 140 is 3/8" wider than the stock tyre, but the actual fitted width can differ from the nominal size.

As an example, my current Avon Venom 150/80 is 153mm wide. That is only 1/8" wider than its nominal size, but it can be the difference between success and disappointment!

Put an Avon 140 on a 1999 softail without any problems.

My 2000 has a 140. It's close to the fender strut hardware.
Belt is ok.
