hi
can anybody tell me the size for the front wheel axle oil seals.
nothing is on them, and they came out in a bad shape, when i checked
it, it was somthing like 1.781" x 1.12" or 1.25/32 x 1.1/8.
and in mm close to 45.3 x 28.5.
for now i cant seem to find them, im trying to skeep the dealer becouse itll cost about 5 times then the regular shop .

They are really not that expensive over the HD counter. Of course....you can get a grease seal in any size you want if you know the width depth and the size of the axle/shaft you want to seal.

If nothing else....take it to a good old fashioned auto parts house and they can match it up for you, but it may cost more than they would at the stealership.

I'd just get some from the HD Shop and save yourself a lot of trouble.

well i guess it is an easier way to find them,
although its 28$!! each... at the dealer, instead about 5$ at any other shop...
since the other parts places cant find it,
and its done once a.... very long time,
so be it.

WHAT!!!!!!!!

If that dealer wants $28 for a bearing grease seal.....I hope he had a gun on you, because that is highway robbery. I can buy two all day long for less than $10 here locally at my Stealership. Are you sure they are not pricing you the entire bearing set along with the seals? My god man....if that is what they want for the seals....I will be happy to mail you a set. I can't believe it!

I will go out to my shop and see if I have a spare set and try to get you a number off the seal. That sounds like the fools in Durango, CO that wanted $400 for a rear tire. Unbelievable!

What model year and type bike are we talking about here? You can get a complete set of bearings and seals off e-bay for around $20, but some of the older bike seals are a little pricy.

I will get back to you. Tell me the model year and frame type.

The one I have in my hand is as follows:

OD: 1.774" 45mm
Thickness: .450" 10mm
Inner Lip: 1.1" 28mm

Numbers around the seal that may be helpful: D5192 7 TCY 17781124 406 TTO

These are for the run-of-the-mill pre-sealed (Timken) bearing dresser family. I do not remember if they are the same for all frames....as in dressers, sport-bikes and cruisers.

Hope this helps, but I sure as he!! would not pay $28 for one!

I will admit that it's been a year-or-so since I purchased any wheel bearing components, but that price is just unreal. If you don't have an e-bay account, maybe find a friend who does. You can get bearings, races (if you were to need them) and seals (the complete pair) all for close to $20 plus shipping.

I see you live overseas and that has to be the problem. I still think it's highway robbery and I totally agree that you need to find other sources for your parts. Many other automotive type filters will work for you as well as other fluids. Ya'll do have automobiles in Israel, so there just has to be other sources to find parts and fluids that will interchange.

ya i tried to find the oil seals there but none of them herd about these sizes, and other mechanics whos warking on harleys said that its a special size too...
im an aouto mechanic my self and i cant get it, that it is so speical size.
and if thats not anough, the dealer just sold the last 2 seal in the f***** country, and will get a shipment in about maybe 3 weeks from know!!!
but ok i have an idea.
since the bearings are like 12$ both, ill find the closest seal size like 45x28
or 45x28.5, ill ride withit untill ill get them, and not from the dealer...
ill keep u posted...
thanks

I think that is an excellent choice. You can find some "close" that will stick-n-hold in the hub and hold the grease. If they are a bit too large at the axle spacer...so what, you may loose a little grease earlier than you normally would...just keep a check on them and re-pack more often. If the center opening is a bit too small....so what again. If it ruins the seal, just stick another one in.

I am leaving for a 2-week MC trip tomorrow, but I tell you what I will do if you want me too. After I return, I will purchase you a couple of sets of seals at "our prices" and mail them to you.

I get stuff from overseas all the time and the postage on something of this weight can't be all that bad. I would be willing to bet that it will not cost you $112 (4 x $28) for me to send you 4-seals!

You can PM me in about a month if you want too and I will see if I can help you out.
