Default Aluminum wheel polish

Here is a dumb question. I am polishing rear aluminum wheel on fxstc with mothers alum polish. Black residue appears as it should. Looks a lot better. Question I have is, what is that residue? Dirt? Metal "dust"? Just the polishing compound? Do I keep polishing until no black appears? Will it always appear even when the cleanest? Thanks for any comments. P.S. I guess its forged alum so should I use mothers alum polish or billet metal polish?

You will always get that black residue with a bare aluminum wheel. Mothers works great I've used it for years. You probably won't get a chrome like shine without some mechanical help using a buffer and some different types of compounds.

Take your time. The trick is small circles with very little mothers on a soft 100% cotton t-shirt. Work around the wheel several times then buff off. Do a second buff with a clean soft 100% cotton t-shirt and you will get that chrome look. It may take a several times but it will look good.

try white diamond polish, it works like mothers but better, have used it on 40 year old aluminum and it shines like chrome

Will White Diamond clean up 07/08 stock Fatboy wheels? I like the wheels, but they are such a PITA to keep clean.
