Can anyone tell me why HD tires wear out so quickly? I don't want to seem ignorant, but if cage tires can last 30K then why can bike tires last more than 10k? I've just replaced tires that were only a year old, 10k miles!

Maybe because a car has four of them? Some car tires only last 30000 miles which is equal to a front tire on a bike.

I've pondered the same question and wondered if it doesn't have something to do with rubber compounds. It stands to reason that a mc tire needs to be a softer compound to better grip the road when leaning into a turn. A similar example is car racing tires. Maybe someone who knows more about tires will chime in here?

Tire compound for sure, MC tires are a lot softer than car tires. Do you need tires that sticky all the time? No but nice to have it when you need it though

Years ago those old Goodyears would go for 35000 miles. Probably hard as a brick thinking about it.

Everytime I lean into a curve I think, nice tire, nice sticky tire.

Motorcycle tires are bias-ply tires as opposed to car tires, which are nearly all radial. And frankly, the car and pickup tires I use get 50,000 to 70,000 miles, not 30,000. But radial tires sidewalls flex too much for use on a road-going bike.
Also, motorcycle tires put much more weight on a much narrower strip of rubber, and all the torque and braking force is applied to that narrow strip as well.

There are some exceptions like the Nissan 350Z.

I've got Radials on my 08 FLSTF. Stock. Dunlop makes them now, Perrille and others.

Sidewalls have NO flex to them.

Made 8K miles on the first rear, maybe 14K on the front.

HD tires(?) you mean mtorcycle tires in general, yes they wear faster because of softer compound, apples to oranges comapring auto tires to MCs, cars don;'t "lean" into corners remember? If MC tires were as hard as auto ones, we'd be wiping out and sliding left and right.
