Default tubes or no tubes...that is the question...

i am trying to purchase new tires for my '06 street bob

i currently have stock tires on the stock spoked rims

front: 100/90-19 M/C 57H - Dunlop D401H
rear: 160/70B17 M/C 73V - Dunlop K591

so my question is, do these have tubes? I'm pretty sure the front does, but not sure about the rear...

??????

All spoked wheels have tubes. Most cast wheels do not.

Default I like my no tubes !!

The reason I like my no tube tires one day I had a flat and fixed it with a plug kit till I was able to have a patch put in . Most of the time I would have replaced the tire but I only had 2,000 miles on it . I hope this helps

Spoked rims run with tubes because can't seal nipples of the spokes with the rim. most solid and mag rims are tubeless.

Default same here

I'm in the same situation with my Road King Classic.

All the H-D wire wheels have inner tubes, because the connection between the spoke and the rim isn't sealed - air would just leak out where the spokes attach. They have tubes, even though the tire says "tubeless". This just means the TIRE can be put on a tubless wheel, and it will seal without a tube, but not if you have unsealed spokes.

If you like the look of spokes, but don't want to call for service when you get a flat, consider sealed spoke wheels. They start at around $300 for a 16" sealed spoke chrome wheel. Check DennisKirk.com, or look for his stuff (American Wire Wheels) on eBay. These sealed spoke wheels have all the shine and style of a spoke wheel, without the hassle of tubes. As a $ compromise, some guys with baggers will put an old H-D cast wheel (from eBay) on the back, hidden by the bags, and put a nice chrome tubelss wire wheel up front where it can be seen.
